Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 brings you another zombie mode, but this time it is different. Upon release, there won’t be several small maps, but a gigantic one where you can drive around and solve puzzles. Everything you need to know about it can be found here.
The zombie mode for Black Ops 7 is supposed to be different and more extensive than anything you have played before in the world of the undead. This includes:
- A gigantic map with several areas
- A vehicle that you can actively drive through the map
- New weapons
- A story around the soul thief of the protagonists
- Return of familiar faces like the Primis characters and the bus driver from Transit (BO2)
For many, the zombie mode is a highlight where they can spend several hours defeating the undead, breaking records, and solving Easter eggs. We are now going into details and showing you what and when you can expect something from the zombie mode.
The Zombie Mode in Short
How does the mode work? The zombie mode of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is a classic, round-based horde mode in which you must eliminate waves of zombies and survive. The goal is to survive as many waves as possible.
Upon release, you can expect the gigantic map “Ashes of the Damned,” which brings you into the heart of the Dark Ether. In addition, there will also be the “Dead Ops” mode – a classic from Black Ops, where you eliminate zombies in arcade style from a top-down perspective.
Besides aiming for high rounds, Easter eggs are crucial for zombie fans, and these will also be there to solve again. The Easter eggs involve complex, often lengthy puzzles that explain the story around your selected map.
How has the story developed? After the Black Ops 6 team reached the Janus Tower, they were teleported into the Dark Ether. There, they encountered the former Primis team led by Richtofen.
The warm welcome was only short-lived, as they were interrupted by a mysterious figure carrying two cages with skulls. This being, which looked like a cowboy, stole the protagonists’ souls and then disappeared through a portal.
Now you must fight your way through the Dark Ether, find the being, and reclaim your souls to leave the Dark Ether.
Standard, Directed, Survival, and Cursed Mode
Additionally, each map can be played in different modes that are meant to provide variety. The following can be gleaned about the modes from the blog post:
Standard Mode: Play the new round-based map “Ashes of the Damned,” continue fighting against the undead in the Dark Ether, and search for clues about the truth behind what lies ahead. Recommended for experienced players. This map includes access to main and side quest content and will be available from November 14.
Directed Mode: Choose an optimized path through a zombies map, where clear goals and guided progress keep you focused on the main quest. This experience is particularly suitable for new players or those looking to advance the story. Directed is expected to appear after Standard, similar to Black Ops 6.
Survival Mode: For the first time since Black Ops 2, there are survival maps for zombies. They offer a focused, unfiltered experience based on a small section of Ashes of the Damned at launch. There are no quests except for you and your team must survive as long as possible against the relentless undead!
Cursed Mode: Experience a new player experience with old game mechanics and numerous side quests to discover ever more powerful (and cursed) relics. Activate these relics to face tougher challenges and gain new power levels, increased replayability, and rewards.
What Changes/Remains the Same Compared to Black Ops 6?
For many, the question now arises as to what has changed compared to Black Ops 6. Which mechanics were carried over and which are new? Can you still use your gums from the predecessor or will they not be transferred at all?
One fear we can alleviate for you, much from Black Ops 6 has made its way back into Black Ops 7. You can expect the following features:
- All your gums from Black Ops 6 will be transferred to the sequel
- You can crush unwanted gums during a match to obtain essences.
- Your research progress in weapon mods as well as perk-a-colas will also be transferred from Black Ops 6
- Essences and scrap remain existing (except in Survival Mode)
- There should also be workbenches
- Loadouts remain and offer you space for 5 gum packs
This should reassure most now, because anyone who ground a lot in Black Ops 6 will have it much easier at the start of the zombie mode to complete the Easter eggs. Apart from that, regarding items and gameplay mechanics, you can expect the following:
- 12 perk-a-colas (1 new and 11 known types).
- Wisp Tea, Jugger-Nog, PhD Flopper, Elemental Pop, Melee Macchiato, Vulture Aid, Double Tap, Quick Revive, Deadshot Daiquiri, Death Perception, Stamin-Up, Speed Cola.
- 6 types of ammunition (1 new and 5 known types).
- Fire Works, Brain Rot, Napalm Burst, Shadow Rift, Dead Wire, Cryo Freeze.
- 6 types of field equipment (1 new and 5 known types).
- Toxic Growth, Dark Flare, Healing Aura, Frenzied Guard, Energy Mine, Aether Shroud.
- There are now ammo boxes where you can refill your ammunition.
- S.A.M. tasks have been replaced by T.E.D.D. tasks (The bus driver from Transit).
- Exfiltration is possible, but no longer with a helicopter, but rather with a phone booth.
- When attempting to escape, you must kill a HVT and his minions, or you will die.
- NEW: If some in your squad choose to forego exfiltration and you lose, only you will be killed, the rest can continue.
Each of the perk-a-colas also receives three new augmentations, including one large and two smaller options to the already 6 known from Black Ops 6.
Once all eight available augmentations have been unlocked, you will have the option to add a second smaller augmentation to your effects.
Further known mods of your ammunition and types of field equipment that you know from Black Ops 6, but did not make it to Black Ops 7 at launch, are expected to appear during Season 1.
Can I test the zombie mode? Yes, you will have the chance to test the round-based zombie mode before release during the beta phase of Black Ops 7. This begins on October 2 and runs until October 8. Depending on the type of beta code (whether pre-order or viewer of CoD: Next), you have a chance to start the mode earlier or later. All information about the beta can be found in our beta overview, which we have linked for you above this paragraph.
These were all the important changes for the upcoming zombie mode of Black Ops 7. Are you excited about the huge map or do you prefer smaller maps?
