Chronicles of Elyria: Fett werden und im Kampf tanzen

At the PAX East game fair, Soulbound Studios presented an updated pre-alpha of the upcoming MMORPG Chronicles of Elyria and announced some new information.

The combat system was playable at the fair. One could see how fast it is and how much it resembles fencing. Players dance around each other, trying to find a gap in the opponent’s defense, jumping forward and striking. The whole thing is very action-oriented and fast-paced, requiring keen attention. The developers aimed to avoid the skills-in-a-hotbar combat system known from other MMOs, so that the battles truly feel “real”.

It was intended to become more of a dance, and apparently, it seems to work well. Blocking, parrying, dodging, and striking accurately are the elements that lead to victory.

Your hero changes over the course of the game

Additionally, they showed how the character will change over time. In Chronicles of Elyria, the character will age and die after about a year. The aging process will be visible. One’s appearance will age until one eventually controls a character around 70 years old.

Moreover, behavior also alters the character of the hero. For example, someone who only munches on cake will become fat. Someone who forges a lot will develop a muscular hero. The customization of the character does not end with the creation of the hero but continues throughout the entire gameplay.

The team is currently preparing for the upcoming crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. This will launch on May 3rd, and they aim to raise at least $900,000 to realize the grand vision behind the MMORPG. The team is passionately engaged and working on a game that weaves the sandbox mechanics of known MMOs with personal stories, a vast world, and interesting combat and aging mechanics.
