China is getting a Warcraft movie. Just very different from the one we actually expect.
Two Warcraft movies are better than one, right?
Also, the Warcraft movie will soon be released in China. However, it is not the one most of you are thinking of. In China, a lot is possible in terms of imitation, and it seems the producers of the film industry have taken that to heart. Because this month, the film “My World of Warcraft” will be hitting theaters, which has clear parallels to Blizzard’s universe.
However, there are not many details about the plot of this film yet, except that it will involve fantasy, time travel, and of course, the great love. The brief summary of the film reads as follows: “A man is transported to the fantasy world of World of Warcraft, where the seemingly impossible happens…” Well, doesn’t that sound outstanding.
The similarities to the actual World of Warcraft are quite evident. There are apparently actors in paladin costumes and at least one lady looks very suspiciously like the life binder Alexstrasza. The director of the film, Zhang Wei, also provided a brief statement:
“I have poured all my enthusiasm and passion into this film and exhausted myself completely to create a spectacle that is based on a logical storyline while being an inexhaustible wonder for the eyes.”
That sounds almost a bit modest. Chinese fans have voiced plenty of criticism online regarding the film, mainly because Blizzard (presumably) has nothing to do with this production.
