Bots in Diablo are not a rarity. But to be so “bold” as to bot with one’s own account while at Blizzard – that is quite peculiar.
Even though some players doubt that they really exist: There are repeatedly ban waves in the various Blizzard games. This punishes botters and cheaters and suspends their accounts temporarily or permanently from the game.
The fact that some botters are occasionally particularly brazen is illustrated by a story from former Blizzard employee Jason Hall. He recounts how audacious his clan leader was.
Who is that? Jason Hall is now known on YouTube and Twitch as “Pirate Software”. He used to work for Blizzard and was responsible for security there – for example, for protective measures of accounts against hackers.
Today he is primarily active as a streamer, frequently sharing insider information and telling exciting stories that often seem quite absurd. Recently, he revealed how a gold seller in WoW delivered a clever hacking idea from his colleagues to keep the selling rate stable.
What has Hall said? In one of his clips, he talks about his friendship with a clan leader in Diablo. The two became good friends and often played together. However, his friend was once banned for botting in the past, as part of a ban wave, but that had slowly been forgotten.
Later, Hall invited his friend for a tour of the Blizzard building. For many, it is quite an honor to get to see the “holy halls” where games like Diablo or Warcraft were developed.
However, during this tour, a humorous incident occurred. An department at Blizzard that Hall calls “Risk” is responsible for punishing botters and cheaters. When they arrived at this department and Hall asked if he could show his friend around, a colleague plainly said “No” and beckoned Hall over for a private conversation, during which he revealed:
“We just banned him. He is botting right at this moment.”
Hall was quite incredulous and subsequently asked his friend:
“Are you really botting right at the moment when you are getting a tour at Blizzard?”
The reaction was likely a disappointed “Oh man”.
But at least it led to this rather amusing story that the two will probably still be telling many years from now. Because who can claim that they had to ban their own clan leader multiple times – and once even while being guided around their own workplace.
Whether that was a rather bold or rather foolish botter, that is something everyone must decide for themselves.
