Project Nova will be a shooter set in the universe of EVE Online. We attended a presentation event in Iceland and brought first gameplay of all currently available classes. Check out gameplay from Sharpshooter, Assault, and Logistic.
Three classes – one map: During our visit to CCP, we had the opportunity to play and record multiple rounds of the new EVE shooter Project Nova in the coop PvE mode “Onslaught”.
In our videos you can see the gameplay of the three currently available classes:
- Sharpshooter (light dropsuit)
- Assault (medium dropsuit)
- and Logistic (heavy dropsuit)
The recordings show the game in a “Pre-Alpha” state. A lot can change before the final game. Unfortunately, the communication of the team members was not recorded.
Project Nova: How the three classes play
The three different classes in Project Nova play similarly in some areas, but they all have different abilities. Their peculiarities become noticeable especially when coordinated as a team.
All classes are equipped with two weapons, a melee attack, devices like grenades, and an ability. Each class can also build automatic turrets at certain positions.
While the main weapons, abilities, and turrets differ, our secondary weapon was always a revolver with explosive ammunition and the melee attack was also identical.
Sharpshooter – A glass cannon with considerable impact
The Sharpshooter is the “light armor class” and has the fewest hit points of all dropsuits (visible at the bottom left on the health bars). Its equipment is:
- Main weapon (standard): Sniper rifle
- Ability: Personal cloaking field
- Turrets: Missile turrets
The Sharpshooter is most effective when it can eliminate enemies from a safe distance without being caught. It can provide fire cover to allow other classes to advance safely.
Assault – The standard soldier
The Assault is the “medium armor class” and offers balanced abilities. It is kind of an “all-rounder”. Its equipment is:
- Main weapon (standard): Assault rifle
- Abilities:
- “Powerslide” (it slides a great distance along the ground)
- Healing and ammunition supply for itself and teammates
- Turrets: Machine guns
The Assault is the class that can best capture and pressure points. It is fast and mobile, can sustain itself, and can endure fire for a while.
Logistic – The team’s shield wall
The Logistic is the “heavy armor class”. It fights with great firepower and many hit points, but sacrifices mobility for that. Its equipment is:
- Main weapon (standard): Grenade launcher
- Abilities:
- Personal ammunition supply
- “Sentry” mode, where it forgoes mobility and instead fights with a higher rate of fire and increased damage.
- Turrets: Machine guns and EMPs
The Logistic is best suited for holding points or areas. It can take down large numbers of enemies and reliably holds its position.
All classes are customizable
As seen in the videos, we sometimes change class or equipment mid-game through console commands. This is a preview of the possible customizations to the dropsuits, that you should be able to make over the course of the game.
In Project Nova, you can create your own combat suit based on personal preferences and also interact with “EVE Online” players. The gameplay merely shows how the classes play by default.
In the PvE mode, the objective is to hold control over the area until 1000 points are reached and then escape. NPCs continuously attack to prevent this. Unfortunately, we could not test the PvP mode yet.
Project Nova will start its Alpha in November 2018. Here’s how to join.
