The CEO of Gearbox, Randy Pitchford (53), is a very unique type. Currently, he is struggling with the poor reviews for the new Borderlands movie, which is flopping at the box office and with critics. But Pitchford seems not to want to acknowledge that. Half of the people like the movie. Even the Beatles had only a 25% rate for hits.
This is the criticism of the new Borderlands movie:
- On Metacritic, the movie has a score of 27 out of 100%. The user reviews are similarly weak at 2.7.
- The general criticism of the Borderlands movie has been articulated by YouTuber Charles White: Apparently, all the budget was spent on a star-studded cast that neither fits the film nor wants to participate. Especially Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Cate Blanchett are criticized as miscast. Only Jack Black as Claptrap at least makes an effort.
- The movie is disappointing in every respect – it has no connection to the Borderlands game series, nor is it funny or exciting. It doesn’t even look particularly good.
CEO feels incredibly flattered by the criticism
Who sees it differently? The CEO of Gearbox, Randy Pitchford, isn’t taking this lying down. He’s trying to put a positive spin on it:
“So what you’re telling me is: You like what me and my friends did with the Borderlands games even more than what the greatest and best cast and crew on the planet have done: I’m super flattered. We’re working extra hard on what’s coming next.”
In doing so, he uses the word “four” to imply, that they are working on Borderlands 4.
So out of:
- The movie is really bad
It becomes for him:
- The Borderlands games are fantastic, even the incredibly good movie of Borderlands can’t match them
It gets really absurd when he personally speaks up for the film and explains:
- Half of the people like it
- The other half does not like it
That’s okay, all opinions are valid. The Beatles had more number 1 hits than any other music group in history, but even their hit rate was only 25%.
Pitchford seems to threaten journalists openly
This is also being discussed: Pitchford seems to be currently getting into disputes with some journalists, as he likes to do. He is explicitly targeting Forbes writer Paul Tassi, who shares his confusion.
Pitchford believes Tassi is “super-obsessed” with him and what his company does. Tassi makes a living by “spreading bullshit” and pretends to know Pitchford personally. Pitchford does not like that at all.
However, he currently doesn’t feel like ruining Tassi. So he leaves it at that.
The contentious CEO of Gearbox, Randy Pitchford, has been involved in some absurd controversies, such as abandoned USB sticks. The perhaps most absurd accusation against Randy Pitchford was that he, the CEO of a multimillion-dollar company, allegedly gave an employee a wet willie: Borderlands 3: Claptrap voice actor says the CEO stuck his wet finger in his ear
