A 27-year-old soldier is working as a DJ under the artist name “Anastasia Rose” on Twitch. This is now backfiring for her as she is charged with refusal of obedience.
Who is Anastasia Rose? According to her own statements, the Twitch streamer comes from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and is active as a DJ on various social media channels.
On YouTube, her channel has about 16,600 subscribers, and on Twitch, there are even 146,910 followers (as of December 10, 2022).
Professionally, she works as a paramedic with the rank of sergeant in the Bundeswehr hospital Berlin. However, she has not been on duty since April 2021 due to illness.
Due to her activity as a DJ on the internet, Anastasia Rose now has a big problem: she is being charged.

What is the problem? On December 8, 2022, the Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office published a press release titled “Professional soldier as DJ? – Charges for refusal of obedience” (via berlin.de).
It states that the 27-year-old had worked as a DJ, even though she was on sick leave and had also been prohibited from engaging in secondary employment. Therefore, the Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office filed charges with the Tiergarten District Court for 23 cases of refusal of obedience.
Military Penal Code – § 20 Refusal of Obedience
(1) Anyone who refuses to obey a command by rising up against it with word or deed shall be punished with imprisonment of up to three years,
- who refuses to follow a command because they rise up against it with word or deed, or
- who insists on not following a command after it has been repeated.
(2) If the offender refuses obedience to a command in the cases of paragraph 1 no. 1 that is not immediately to be executed, but follows it in a timely and voluntary manner, the court may refrain from punishment.

Anastasia Rose had been selling merchandise such as perfume and clothing and had produced several music videos in addition to her artist activities. Since July 20, 2021, she had been ordered by her superior captain a total of 10 times to cease her secondary employment.
Despite this, Anastasia Rose is alleged to have performed live as a DJ 23 times in the period from August 7, 2021, to June 8, 2022, both live and in online livestreams.
How does Anastasia react to this? According to Nordkurier, Anastasia Rose reportedly spoke on the evening of December 9, 2022, on her Twitch channel about the accusations and media reports, partially in tears:
She stated that she had never viewed her performances as a secondary occupation. Furthermore, she did not receive payment for the performances and did not act as an organizer. She saw her activity as purely artistic and had not intended to disclose her profession in the Bundeswehr to the public.
She further spoke in the stream about her training in the Bundeswehr, the refusal of orders, and the sick leave. She described her experiences as a paramedic during the Corona pandemic, which she presumably found burdensome. She also stated that she was not a professional soldier but was performing the role “temporarily” and wished to leave the Bundeswehr.
