In the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, players are currently debating a bug in the “Search and Destroy” mode. Enemies can see when a bomb is being defused. This makes it incredibly difficult for the affected team to win. Some users believe this is intentional.
Which mode are we talking about? The “Search and Destroy” mode is a classic PvP mode, as you already know from Counter-Strike: One team must plant and protect a bomb, while the other must defuse it.
This mode is quite popular and is considered one of the greater challenges of the game by many fans. However, a mistake is making the mode disproportionately harder – almost unplayable.
What kind of bug is this? When someone tries to defuse the bomb, the enemy may see a bomb icon on the minimap. This means: They know that the bomb is being defused. This bug also existed in Modern Warfare (2019).
For a defending team, meaning those who need to defuse, it becomes almost impossible to win. Because the attackers have to pay less attention to the bomb site after planting. They can see if someone is tampering with it.
Especially when you, as the last defender, try to turn the round with a hidden defuse, it becomes nearly impossible. Former CoD pro Tommey shows in a short clip what the bug looks like:
“This could be an intended feature”
This is how players react: Some users on Twitter are angry that Tommey shared this bug instead of quietly reporting it to the developers. Now everyone knows it’s a problem, and only because of that, it becomes a “game-breaking bug”.
Others believe, though, that this is not a bug but a feature. There has been a dispute about this since the beta, whether Modern Warfare 2 is “too easy” and “casual-friendly”.
It is possible to see enemies through two arrows in the HUD, if you use them correctly. A display of when the bomb is being defused fits perfectly into the narrative, users believe.

However, most fans agree with Tommey and hope that the developers will react as quickly as possible and fix the problem.
Is it a bug or a feature? In fact, despite the opinions of some users, this problem is likely a bug. Because the icon appears only under certain circumstances and not when someone is defusing a bomb from start to finish.
Since the bug has now been shared on many social channels, the developers should have become aware by now. However, we cannot currently say when a bug fix will come.
