When is the Borderlands 4 release?
The release of Borderlands 4 is on September 12, 2025 (via X). Previously, the release of the loot shooter was planned for September 23 (via 2k.com), but the developers have moved the launch of the game forward by a few days.
On which platforms will Borderlands 4 be released?
Borderlands 4 will be released for:
- PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store
- PS5
- Xbox Series X/S
Nothing is known yet about a possible Switch version. Borderlands 3 was released on the Switch, but Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands was not.
Characters in Borderlands 4
So far, not much is known. The following points are clear:
- There is a new antagonist called the “Timekeeper”. He wants to maintain “perfect order” and seems to be willing to use any means necessary.
- There are completely new vault hunters that you will play. They were seen for the first time in the trailer, but we do not yet know their names.
- Some familiar characters are expected to appear. For example, BL3 vault hunter Zane is briefly seen in the trailer.

Content of Borderlands 4 – Story, Location, what can we expect?
So far, only limited information about the new installment is known. However, some points have already been announced.
- As usual, there are plenty of weapons, on the official site they talk about “billions of wild and deadly weapons”
- The story takes you to the new planet Kairos
- Action skills and skill trees are as usual in the game
- You join the resistance against the Timekeeper

What does the co-op mode bring? You can:
- Play co-op online with up to four players
- Locally, the 2-player split-screen is available
When will there be more information? At the beginning of 2025, more details about the gameplay of Borderlands 4 are expected. Fans can already look forward to that. However, more details are likely to become known over time in general. The head behind Borderlands 4 recently commented on whether the game would have an open world – and already hinted at what the world of Borderlands 4 looks like and what freedoms it brings.
