For many players, the right gameplay of Borderlands 4 begins only after the story. For this, there is the Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode (Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode), which is essential for the endgame. Everything you need to know about it can be found at MeinMMO.
Attention Spoilers: In the following section, there may be slight spoilers about recurring characters.
How do you unlock the Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode? If you complete the story in Borderlands 4 with a character, you can unlock the difficult mode.
After the campaign, you will receive 3 missions that you need to complete, which will introduce you to various endgame mechanics. You must complete the following missions:
- Complete Zane’s firmware quest
- Complete the quest for Maurice’s black market
- Complete the quest for Moxxi’s Big Encore Machine
After that, you can take on the first Wildcard mission from Lilith. Once you complete it, you unlock rank 1 in the Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode and can dive into the hard mode from the main menu.
How do you unlock the other ranks in the Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode? Currently, there are 5 ranks that you can unlock, which will make the game increasingly challenging but also improve the rewards you can receive.
To unlock the other ranks, you need to take down various monsters in the world of Kairos at the current rank. Once you have defeated the monsters, you will receive another Wildcard mission from Lilith that unlocks the next rank.
For the 5th rank, you must complete 4 special Wildcard missions that will push you to your limits. You can switch between the different ranks at any time.
After the video, we explain what the mode is about.
Borderlands 4: Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode – Content and Features
What makes the Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode so special? The main feature is that the enemies are significantly stronger than in the normal campaign. Health and damage are increased and scale with the rank you are currently playing. There are also more modifiers that enemies can have. But the rewards are also better:
- Cash drops are increased
- Eridium drops are increased (How to farm the currency best, see here)
- You will receive more experience
- The quality of the loot is improved
- Elemental effectiveness is increased
You can also start directly with a new character at level 30 after the campaign, skip the campaign, and go into the Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode. However, keep in mind that while you will get loot at a suitable level, it may not be optimal.
Additionally, you will need to explore the map again with a new character and unlock the fast travel stations again.
What can you do in the Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode? The Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode is the endgame of Borderlands 4. Here, you not only reach level 50, but also refine your builds and start farming loot and equipment. You can do this as follows:
- With Moxxi’s Big Encore Machines, you can spawn bosses for Eridium to farm their dedicated legendary weapons as well as other equipment.
- Once you have completed the campaign, you can find items with firmware. These can be any equipment items that are not weapons. Once you have a set together, you will receive various bonuses that affect your builds. After the story, you can transfer firmware from items to others. Such items drop more frequently in the Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode.
- Through the increased experience points in the mode, you can also level your specializations that strengthen your classes again.
- You can also replay the story or individual quests with increased difficulty.
The Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode is therefore suitable for players who want to continue after the story and improve their builds. Additionally, the mode offers a greater challenge. If you want to farm for this already, one of the easiest bosses is a good starting point: A boss in Borderlands 4 gives you strong loot and can be defeated in seconds
