Borderlands 4 was showcased at the Tokyo Games Show 2025 with a newVault Hunter that will be added to the lineup of the loot shooter in the future.
What type of Vault Hunter is this? The newly revealed upcoming Vault Hunter for Borderlands 4 is named C4SH and will be released in early 2026 as part of the first DLC.
First images show C4SH in a tattered, ragged coat, wearing a hat decorated with feathers. He also has similar embellishments on his shoulders. Additionally, he wears high boots. Overall, the design of the Vault Hunter resembles a cowboy.
In the following video, you can take a first look at him:
What is known so far about the new Vault Hunter? On the stage of the Tokyo Games Show (via YouTube), Randy Pitchford, CEO of Borderlands developer Gearbox Software, shared some background information about the new Vault Hunter:
- C4SH used to be a dealer-bot from a casino. As a dealer, he saw players become wealthy through luck – or ruin their lives through bad luck.
- He is a robot, but he has his own personality and intelligence. He quit his job as a dealer and decided to live his own life as a Vault Hunter.
- As a Vault Hunter, C4SH uses his understanding of odds and probabilities to achieve a random outcome. Whether it’s a dice roll or drawing cards: The result is unknown until the odds decide his fate.
Afterward, Pitchford explained that C4SH could be the strongest Vault Hunter in the game if luck is on his side. However, with bad luck, the opposite is true. The gameplay of the cowboy is overall “high risk, high reward”.
What does C4SH have to do with magic tricks? At the end of his appearance, Randy Pitchford shared that the new Vault Hunter is important to him and that they have much in common. Pitchford said he played professional poker for some time. He has experienced what it feels like when the odds are on his side and he wins or when he has bad luck and loses money.
Additionally, Pitchford is a magician who knows some card tricks. His card tricks helped shape C4SH’s animations in the game. The way C4SH “creates” his cards, flips them into the other hand, and throws them is reportedly inspired by these card tricks.
