Borderlands 4 will be released on September 12, 2025, and will feature a character that is equally loved and hated by fans. Those who find him annoying will at least receive a practical feature this time.
Who are we talking about? Of course, we are talking about Claptrap, the little robot who has been on board since Borderlands in 2009 (yes, you are already that old!).
As a sidekick, he has always stood out mainly due to his annoying nature. His voice is not only extremely shrill and metallic; Claptrap also babbles on about moderately interesting stuff nonstop. For this reason, he even made it into our ranking of the most annoying NPC companions.
Sure, some players enjoy the little robot and will probably be pleased with his return in Borderlands 4. All others, who are already facing the release and the return of Claptrap with trembling knees, can now breathe a sigh of relief.
The developers have heard the prayers of the fans and included a feature in the game that appears like a salvation from long suffering.
Long live the slider!
What feature are we talking about? For years, Claptrap has annoyed many players with his voice. But what if you could simply turn it off?
In the previous installments, it was difficult to do this without also turning down the rest of the game’s sound. In Borderlands, this will change. In a post by the user Chadly_99 on x.com, you can see the Narrative Director of the game, Sam Winkler, working in the menu.
In the settings of Borderlands 4, there is an option to change Claptrap’s volume. This only affects the robot and no other sounds in the game.
What do the players think? Under the post, comments from players expressing their gratitude are accumulating. Representing them, the user Sunny Days writes: “Thank God. I think most people are fed up with him.”
Others come up with funny twists on the feature and almost expect it not to work properly:
- “It would be funny if it doesn’t work,” says Watermelon.
- “Plot twist: It changes nothing about how loud he is,” writes Dwayne The Brock Johnson.
- “The lower the slider, the louder he gets,” predicts Sanity_is_Overratedd.
- “Only true fans leave him at 100%,” claims Horrible.
- “They should have made it so that 110% is the lowest,” demands Norbed.
How this feature will ultimately affect the gaming experience remains to be seen. The general sentiment among players sounds pleasantly positive on this topic, especially after Borderlands 4 has recently stirred up criticism due to its pricing policy.
