Borderlands 4 offers something for every player type with its available classes. Whether you want to go in hard or with style – anything is possible, you just need to know which Vault Hunter to choose.
How is the list structured? We assign each of the four available classes to a player type and explain why they were categorized that way. Please note that each class is versatile thanks to its action skills, and thus can also change its player types.
We also mention, if applicable, alternative player types for each of the classes and show with which action skills you can bring them forth.

Vex: Ranged Fighter, Minions & Elemental Damage (Support)
Which player type is served by Vex? With skills like Phantoms or Rabatzi, Vex takes the place a class with minions would occupy. You can summon copies of yourself or a large spectral big cat that can engage in combat for you and draw aggro from enemies.
Not quite a necromancer, but similar is her action skill around Incarnation. With it, you can siphon life from your enemies, weaken them, and inflict status effects. Additionally, effects can also be applied to allies that strengthen them. One might say it’s a hybrid of necro and support. Thus, Vex is more of a passive-aggressive class, depending on the action skill you choose.
Rafa: Ranged & Melee Fighter, Turrets (DD)
Which player type is served by Rafa? Rafa is a quick, gun-happy soldier and a one-man army. With his synthetic augmentations, Rafa has the capability to either conjure energy blades to engage in melee or bring out two turrets from his shoulders that automatically take down your enemies.
A disastrous laser is also on hand, which you can charge and fire safely from a distance. Overall, Rafa represents the classic shooter class for ranged combat, but is also useful in melee with his energy blades.
If you want to rely on a versatile soldier who brings a wide arsenal of weapons and gadgets and always provides excitement, you should choose Rafa.
Harlowe: Ranged Fighter, Gadgets (CC & Support)
Which player type is served by Harlowe? Harlowe is the master of crowd control and can effortlessly deal with large groups of enemies. She uses her various gadgets to pin down enemies or suck them into her massive CHROMA sphere and then explode them.
Harlowe is versatile due to her gadgets and can also deal significant damage to bosses. In melee, Harlowe falters, so it’s better to prefer ranged combat and only engage in melee when you have cleared the field.
In co-op, Harlowe is also a strong option, as she can equip allies with buffs that increase damage, fire rate, and reload speed.
Amon: Ranged & Melee Fighter, Minions & Elemental Damage (Tank)
Which player type is served by Amon? Amon lives up to his appearance, as the muscular warrior represents the tank of the Vault Hunters. His talents are versatile, ranging from effective ranged combat to bloody but brutal melee combat.
With his forge gadgets, Amon can conjure elemental axes, hammers, and swords out of thin air that he can throw at his enemies. These can destabilize opponents and can explode upon a kill. With one skill, your thrown weapons even become minions that act autonomously.
Besides that, there is also an action skill with a whip and a shield that allows you to take damage even better. Last but not least, there’s the fiery hammer with your flaming fists that mark you as a true melee fighter.
So if you want to dive headfirst into the fray without regard for losses, you should choose Amon.
