Gearbox surprisingly announced a remaster for Borderlands 1 and the Handsome Collection for Xbox One, PS4, and PC at PAX East. This means that the new Borderlands 3 is not the only highlight of the event.
This was shown: During PAX East, Gearbox showcased a livestream. Some fans had already expected that more would come than just a new Borderlands.
Shortly before the announcement of Borderlands 3, there was another piece of information. At around 7:50 PM on March 28, the announcement came: Borderlands 1 and the Handsome Collection will be released as remastered versions.
The desire for a remastered version of Borderlands 1 has been circulating in the community for a long time and is now being fulfilled.
For which platforms will the versions be released? The announced versions for Borderlands 1 and the Handsome Collection will be available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
What content will the remasters have? The versions will be enhanced for 4K resolution. Furthermore, Borderlands 1 will receive some new features:
- a minimap
- gold chests with skins
- 4-player couch co-op
Both Borderlands 1 and the Handsome Collection will come with all DLCs. This means:
Borderlands 1 comes with
- The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned
- Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot
- The Secret Armory of General Knoxx
- Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution
Borderlands 2 comes with
- the Mechromancer and Psycho Pack
- the Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 1 and 2
- 4 DLC campaigns
- 5 Headhunter DLCs
- Creature Slaughter Dome
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel comes with
- Shock Drop Slaughter Pit
- the Doppelganger and Baroness Pack
- The Holodome Onslaught
- Claptastic Voyage
How much will the remasters cost? A price for Borderlands Game of the Year has not yet been mentioned. However, anyone who owns Borderlands on Steam will receive the GOTY for free. The UHD version of the Handsome Collection will be available as a free pack for all owners of the Collection.
When can I purchase the remasters? According to the trailers, the versions will be available starting April 3.
What differences are there compared to the Handsome Collection? The Handsome Collection was previously released for PS4 and Xbox One. It includes both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. The UHD patch is supposed to further enhance the graphics.
New is that Borderlands 1 will receive a remaster and will be ported to the new consoles.
