For a long time, Blizzard seemed to have completely forgotten one of its most popular franchises. Now it seems they have remembered it again … and are making skins for Diablo 4. These are once again so expensive that for the same money you could instead buy one of the best games of the year.
Which franchise is being talked about? Blizzard was once known not only for World of Warcraft and Diablo, but also for really good real-time strategy games. Before WoW came the Warcraft trilogy for the RTS genre, and then there is of course also StarCraft, one of Blizzard’s most popular franchises, with which it celebrated great real-time strategy and esports successes for many years.
Although StarCraft 2 is still played in tournaments and has a loyal fanbase, Blizzard has hardly touched the series for years. The last StarCraft game, StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void, was released in November 2015, almost 10 years ago now.
Now Blizzard has released a trailer announcing new cosmetic items for Diablo 4. These are inspired by StarCraft: For the Spiritborn, there is the Queen of Blades as a new skin. You can make your mount a Zergling instead.

Both StarCraft and Diablo deserve better, fans say
The reactions of many players are negative:
- Some say that the development team is putting too little work into the actual game. NollieTheGnome writes: “If they put half the effort into the game that they put into the store, we’d have something special!” (YouTube)
- Others like ignaciobruh2fuentes451 wish that Blizzard would use the StarCraft franchise “for something else besides useless cosmetics in other games” (YouTube).
Still others think that the skins don’t fit in the game at all. With this, Blizzard has broken a promise it made to its fans after Diablo 3.
- XMusicSickness writes: “remember when the devs promised cosmetics to be ‘true to the universe’ of Diablo 4? Yeah well.. apparently space suits are close enough” (YouTube).

One of the best games of the year for less money
The price of the skins is also a topic of conversation. “Very cool skins. But for €28, I’m definitely out,” says Nymotik on YouTube.
For that money, you can buy full on games on Steam. The recently released Hollow Knight: Silksong, for example. Silksong was released on September 4, 2025, after years of development, and has become one of the best games of the year – and it only costs €19.50 on Steam.
Also worth recommending: On September 25, Hades 2, a roguelite hack ‘n’ slash, left early access. The game currently has 95% positive reviews on Steam and costs €28.99. And it doesn’t have an ingame shop charging you extra money.
Hollow Knight: Silksong has not yet secured the title of the best game of the year 2025. This will also be quite difficult this year. The competition is pretty strong this time, much to the delight of all players: No matter which game becomes the game of the year – we all have won this time
