The War Within is the latest expansion for World of Warcraft and solo play has never been easier. Blizzard seems to have recognized this and has released a guide explaining how to approach the MMORPG World of Warcraft solo. MeinMMO has taken a closer look at the tips.
How well does solo gaming work?
- WoW is an MMORPG and is designed to be played with other players. However, the latest expansion The War Within is also interesting for solo players.
- Since Dragonflight, you have the option to complete dungeons easily with NPCs. This makes a large part of the group content now possible solo.
- The War Within takes this even further: The story mode for raids allows you to fight the final boss in the first raid alone. You no longer need a group for almost anything.
These are Blizzard’s tips: The developers have published a post in the official blog with tips for solo play. There are details about general WoW functions as well as new features from The War Within.
The guide apparently targets new players who are just starting with WoW. Blizzard recommends, for example:
- the Isle of the Exiled for levels 1-10, followed by Dragonflight for levels 10-70 and then starting with The War Within
- follower dungeons to level up and complete dungeon quests
- professions to gain a little bonus experience
- additionally, there are tips on how to leave chat channels or ignore players as well as links to guides and more.
Furthermore, Blizzard praises the Depths, the new short solo dungeons from The War Within, which you complete with an NPC companion. But how useful are these tips?

Blizzard’s Solo Guide – Good for Beginners, but Not Efficient
If you are completely new to WoW, Blizzard’s solo guide is quite useful. The tips are not aimed at choosing the fastest and most efficient way, but rather to introduce you to the game and its features.
Just the follower dungeons are excellent for this, as you get to know your class and can try out various roles without potentially being under pressure. Since World of Warcraft has become so complex now, that even MeinMMO’s demon Cortyn needs addons, such a “taking by the hand” is quite advisable.
However, if you want to level up solo as quickly as possible, the tips help very little. The best expansion for leveling is still Warlords of Draenor, as here you can complete bonus objectives for a lot of experience without much effort. Ideally, you mix WoD with Dragonflight to have some starter gear for The War Within in the end.
In The War Within, it is then easiest to exclusively complete dungeons. This way, you can level characters to level 80 within a few hours – but you miss out on the story if you don’t know it yet. However, we know that such tips are sensible: 67% of you see WoW as a solo game, only 10% prefer groups.
