Black Myth: Wukong is currently the most wished-for game on Steam. Whether this hype is justified will be revealed to us upon release on August 20 – until then, we have been given one last trailer, which reveals some exciting new details.
What kind of game is this? Black Myth: Wukong is an action RPG with Souls elements, based on the novel “Journey to the West” – a classic of Chinese literature. The game is developed by the Chinese indie developer Game Science.
Players take on the role of the Chosen One, who is inspired by the Monkey King Sun Wukong. The weapon used is a combat staff, which the Chosen One can adjust to their liking.
As a shapeshifter, the Chosen One can either sneak past enemies disguised as a cicada or take on the form of defeated enemies to use their weapons and abilities in battle.
Black Myth: Wukong is set to be released on August 20, 2024, for PC and PS5. You can watch the final trailer for the most wished-for game on Steam here:
New enemies, transformations, and characters
What does the new trailer show? In its nearly five-minute runtime, the trailer showcases some already known fights (such as the battle against a tiger person in a pool of blood), but also many new enemies.
Among the newly introduced enemies are tree beings, a monstrous swordsman, and a living, multi-headed stone statue – the monster designs would certainly do justice to a Soulslike.
Additionally, several characters appear to be friendly towards the Chosen One – among them, one who looks like a young Buddha.
Lastly, there is also a preview of the English voiceover for the game. Alongside Chinese, it will remain the only dubbed language. Therefore, you will likely not be able to play with a German voiceover.
Trailer fuels anticipation
How are fans reacting? In the comments on YouTube, there is a lot of excitement for the game. “We are ready,” writes one user.
Another is visibly excited about the high number of unique enemies: “No matter how many trailers they release showing enemies/bosses, there are always more enemies/bosses with VERY unique designs.”
Fun fact: The singing that starts after two minutes is, as a YouTube comment correctly noted, a Buddhist mantra. Translated into German, the name of this mantra is “Rebirth in the Pure Land” – are the developers perhaps trying to convey something to us?
Xbox players will have to wait for Black Myth: Wukong: A version for the Xbox Series X|S will not be available on August 20, 2024. However, for the other platforms, several versions can already be pre-ordered – one even for the hefty price of $400. More about this: The most wished-for game on Steam has a shockingly expensive collector’s edition – and bad news for Xbox players.
