What do I need to know about Land of the Morning Light: Seoul? The new expansion of Black Desert is released on September 12, 2024, for PC, building on the hugely successful add-on Land of the Morning Light from last year and takes you to the second half of the Asian-inspired continent.
The main features of Land of the Morning Light: Seoul include:
- The continuation of the story from Land of the Morning Light and a reunion with various familiar characters from the previous expansion.
- 8 longer quest lines in which you can make smaller decisions to influence the respective ending. You can expect a mix of political intrigue and Asian folklore, as if the series (or the movie or the book) “Shogun” and the classic “A Chinese Ghost Story” had a child.
- 10 new instanced bosses that you can challenge as a 5-player group on two difficulty levels to climb the related leaderboard and earn special loot. At launch, 6 of the bosses will be available, with the remaining ones following gradually.
- 4 new world bosses spread across the new region.
- New “Lord” weapons that not only can be upgraded but also customized with up to five different enhancement effects (and visually).
- There is a new estate that you can earn.

Hits for bosses and love for guilds
How can I earn loot for the entire guild? The aforementioned instanced boss fights were part of the “Black Shrine,” which was introduced last year with Land of the Morning Light. Until now, challenges there were aimed at solo players. The new adversaries, however, target 5-player groups.
If you want to have fun with four guildmates instead of random dudes, you can look forward to additional rewards, not for yourself, but for the entire guild. The more internal guild groups your community can inspire for the “Black Shrine,” the more loot you can expect – an exciting concept!
What else is special about the new expansion? Similar to the previous expansion, the Korean developers at Pearl Abyss are using the opportunity to bring you a little closer to Korean heritage through the setting. They collaborated with the Cultural Heritage Administration to recreate famous places like the majestic Gyeongbokgung Palace in the game.
How beginner-friendly is the Seoul expansion? Unlike Land of the Morning Light from last year, the freshly released expansion will not bring another starting point for beginners. The opposite is even true: If you want to play the new Seoul quests, you must have mastered the main quests of the last addon (up to the quest “A Hint at the Truth”).
Moreover, the new challenges are aimed at characters level 56 or higher and a certain equipment quality. The most challenging difficulty of the new “Black Shrine” bosses will likely make even experienced veterans sweat.
What does the further schedule look like? Still in September, the new class awakening of the Dosa should be introduced, which fits perfectly into the Asian setting of the expansion with its focus on “Yin and Yang” gameplay.
As soon as possible, the Dehkia lanterns will also follow at Tier Level 2, which you can use to upgrade selected monster zones for grinding. Tier 2 will be significantly more challenging than the already available Tier 1 lanterns.
Finally, there should also be a management system for the palace in the new regions, based on nodes that will once again be connected to the production chains from crafting and trading between players.
