The blonde witch Bibi Blocksberg has made many children’s hearts beat faster with her crazy spells. Together with her parents, she lives in Neustadt. But did you know that Bibi Blocksberg had a little brother?
Who was the little brother? In the first 7 audio play episodes of Bibi Blocksberg, the cheeky witch still had a little brother. His name was Boris Blocksberg, he was 8 years old, and he had black, curly hair. Unfortunately, the two often argued because Boris was jealous of Bibi’s witch powers.
But since episode 8, Boris has not appeared anymore. Even worse: The family has since denied his existence. In the episode called Babysitter, for example, Bibi wishes to have siblings. In the episode titled The Computer Witch
, father Bernhard Blocksberg even says that the family consists of only 3 people.
In episode 9 of Bibi Blocksberg, it is even explained why Boris has disappeared. But officially, there are even two reasons why Boris can no longer live with his sister.

What happened to him? Within the story, it is explained that Boris moved to his grandparents at the North Sea. The boy is said to have suffered from a cough. The fresh sea air would do him good. However, despite the move, Boris never came to visit, not even at Easter and Christmas.
The Kiddinx publishing house, which was responsible for the production of the audio plays, issued a statement in 2013 explaining why Boris Blocksberg had to disappear. The answer: So that Bibi Blocksberg remains the star.
The series “Bibi Blocksberg” started in 1980 under the name “Eene meene Hexerei” and was originally conceived as a family series that was supposed to tell the adventures of the Blocksbergs. After the first six episodes, due to the reaction of the listeners who preferred more adventures about the little witch Bibi, the concept was slightly changed. The series was clearly focused on the little witch, renamed “Bibi Blocksberg”, and the dramatically strong rival character of the brother was “written out”, as it is nicely put.

The creators of the series now realize how harsh the decision was back then. However, the success of the series has shown that they made the right choice.
There is another reason why Boris disappeared: Elfie Donnelly, the creator of Bibi Blocksberg, mentioned in an interview that the names Boris and Bibi were too similar. The series was meant to be about a strong girl, which is why the story was changed.
Could Boris return? The publisher emphasized that a return of Boris would be just as harsh as his disappearance. Several generations of children have grown up without Boris. They do not want to confuse the children by having Boris return.
Consequently, we assume that we will never see Boris Blocksberg again. The publisher also emphasized that he will never be mentioned again. Thus, the older fans who still remember Boris must mentally say goodbye to him.
