Gen Z feels pressured on dates. For this reason, Tinder is introducing a new feature. But this feature is not entirely new in the industry. Some users doubt that so-called double dates will really help in finding partnerships.
Tinder is considered one of the most well-known dating apps. In Europe, they have been testing so-called double dates for a while. Now it has been officially confirmed that they will launch a new “Double Date” feature worldwide.
According to Tinder, the pressure on Generation Z (1997 to 2010) on dates is so high that they no longer want to go on a date alone.
Gen Z faces high pressure in finding partners, double dates are supposed to help
Tinder explained: Cleo Long, Tinder’s head of product marketing, stated to The Verge that the platform has been testing the feature in Europe for “a few months” and added that it should help reduce the pressure in finding partners, especially for younger users.
This is a social-first experience that is supposed to really help relieve some of the pressure that we know many of Gen Z experience in dating by making it more social, having more fun, and involving your friends to enhance comfort.
Where is the feature located? The feature is found in a new “Double Date” icon in the upper right corner of the app, through which you can invite up to three friends to form couples. A match is created when one person from each couple swipes right. Tinder then opens a group chat with all four users.
Is this really new? No, Tinder is just catching up with the competition, which already offers a similar feature. Double dates are not new in the industry, and apps like Doubble and Fourplay are already implementing a similar function.
How is the feature received? In the community, the double date feature is controversial. Some explain that most guys already don’t get any women anyway, and this wouldn’t change with the double date. For example, a user writes on Reddit:
The probability that two women find the same guy attractive and manage to arrange a date for all four seems astronomically low.
Most guys here can’t even get a woman not to cancel.
Generation Z often faces great overwhelm in the job market. This leads many members of the generation to ghost their potential bosses and not show up at work: Gen Z treats their bosses like a bad date and makes ghosting at work a trend
