The fast-paced arena brawler Battlerite (PC) also plans to launch a battle royale mode. Thanks to its unique gameplay, it should play out quite differently than Fortnite and others.
What is Battlerite? Battlerite is an arena brawler. It operates like a MOBA, but without minions, shops, lanes, creeps, and towers. It’s all about intense duels and skill shots.
In the standard game, teams of 3 heroes with unique skills fight against each other. Since everything is fast-paced, rounds in Battlerite are over quickly.
If no decision has been made, the play area shrinks and kills all who do not escape in time.
Actually almost like in a battle royale game…
Another Battle Royale Game?
What are the developers of Battlerite planning? Stunlock Studios, the developers of Battlerite, also want a piece of the battle royale pie with their game. “Battle Royale” describes games in which many players, often 100, fight until only one remains.
However, contrary to shooters like Paladins, which struggle to create a unique battle royale mode, “Battlerite Royale” should truly have several unique features.
A Battle Royale Game with Top-Down Graphics
This could make Battlerite: Battle Royale unique: Unlike Paladins and others, Battlerite is not a shooter. It plays with the WASD keys for movement and the mouse for aiming like a top-down shooter. In battles, skilled skill shots, clever use of abilities, and well-timed dodges determine victory or defeat.
And then there are the heroes! You can choose a character from a selection of 27 champions. Each has its own skills and plays differently. If Stunlock manages the balancing, Battlerite would achieve what Paladins could not: A battle royale game with unique heroes!
Coming this Summer
Battlerite: Battle Royale has a few other features to offer:
- A map that is 30 times larger than the usual Battlerite arena
- 20 players at once in solo (everyone for themselves) or duo mode (2-person teams)
- Players are dropped on an island and must gather equipment first.
According to marketing director Johan Ilves, the battle royale mode is meant to offer players “Diablo-like exploration combined with the character diversity of a MOBA and the excitement of a survival game” .
That sounds great! When is it coming? There is currently no specific release date for the battle royale mode of Battlerite. However, it is supposed to be released in summer 2018. There should certainly be no shortage of players, Battlerite has over 4 million registered users, is free to play, and is rated extremely well on Steam.
