Star Wars: Battlefront is being re-released for the PlayStation 4 and ventures into the realm of virtual reality.
Players will become part of the Star Wars universe
So far, VR games have often been laughed at by many gamers, as the gaming experience often suffers from excessive lag or simply the immaturity of the technology. Since the PlayStation 4 aims to kick off directly into the VR market this year, several exciting titles have been secured to bring this to fruition. One of them is a re-release of Star Wars: Battlefront. However, regarding the VR version of Battlefront, there is confidence: This game has the potential to convince players that VR “is worth it”.
John Koller, Vice President of Marketing at Sony for PlayStation, says:
“We are working with EA, DICE, Lucasfilm, and Disney to create an experience that most players have long desired: ‘How can I be in this Star Wars universe?’ Battlefront will be one of those games that shows players what it means to be in the world of VR. It’s something very special. And because it’s in the nature of a VR game, it will differ greatly from the original experience of the PS4 version.”
Even though there are great hopes for the VR Battlefront, it is believed that it will not be a “killer app”, meaning an absolute reason to buy for many players. Unlike certain games that are released exclusively to boost console sales, VR is something “very personal. It depends on each individual what they like and prefer. There is a big difference compared to games where we can say in advance, ‘This game will drive console sales.'”
An exact release date is not yet available, but Star Wars Battlefront VR is aiming for the fall of the current year.
