In Battlefield 6 there has been a lot of discussion lately about the unlocking of the new shotgun DB-12. Now the developers have responded and are listening to the community.
Why was there trouble over the shotgun? The developers of Battlefield 6 presented their Battle Pass on October 28. In addition to the standard and the premium Battle Pass, there were supposed to be two seasonal Battle Passes. However, these were initially planned to be unlocked only after completing the standard Battle Pass.
This would have meant that players would have had to reach 93 ranks in the standard Battle Pass before they could level up the next pass and unlock the DB-12 shotgun. The shotgun is only available in the Season Pass “California Resistance” which starts on November 18. However, the developers’ plans caused an uproar in the community.
Trouble prompts reconsideration
How did the community react? The community did not agree with the idea of hiding a weapon unlock behind so much grind. On Reddit, many fans complained about the idea and feared they would never be able to use the weapon:
- Batallius: “God, I am so tired of having to go through all this crap just to unlock a weapon, 300 suppressions almost made me quit playing.”
- Jim_Nills_Mustache: “Yeah, I simply won’t force myself to do things like that, I even took my time with the scout headshots and spread it out over a week. It’s just too exhausting, especially since they’re supposedly fixing it, I’d rather pass.”
- ChicknSoop: “God, I hate Battle Passes, it’s the dumbest thing that the gaming community defends.”
- Claymore209: “Battle Pass feels more like a task list.”
The outcry from players seems to have reached the developers, who then changed their plans and modified the system.
What do the changes look like? The plan to unlock the seasonal passes only after completing the standard Battle Pass has been reversed by the developers. Now looking at the Battlefield 6 website, it now states:
Season 1 will also include two seasonal paths. Progress on these seasonal paths can be achieved simultaneously with the regular Battle Pass of Season 1.
So, the community’s feedback was well received by the developers and led to this change. Now anyone can begin unlocking the DB-12 shotgun as soon as the Season Pass “California Resistance” starts on November 18. However, what needs to be done for this remains unknown.
The developers of Battlefield 6 listen a lot to the community and try to implement the players’ wishes. However, soon it may no longer be the players but the artificial intelligence that becomes the first point of contact for the developers: Fans believe that the developers of Battlefield 6 have finally understood what they want, but in the future they will use AI as a “thinking partner”
