After players of Battlefield 6 have been complaining about the size of the maps since launch, the developers have now made a significant change and are simultaneously reviewing all maps.
What bothers the fans? Fans of Battlefield 6 have consistently expressed criticism regarding the size of the maps since the release (via Reddit). Many fans see the issue primarily as the maps being too small, often resulting in stalemates. In these cases, there is often a prolonged standstill without any movement.
In fact, vehicles were supposed to help break that standstill and get the game back in motion, but fans complain that the vehicles are too weak for this task. Thus, on the small maps, it turns into a meat grinder where both sides make no progress but constantly eliminate each other.
While some fans view this as an overcorrection after the too-large maps from Battlefield 2042, the developers have now taken initial steps to combat the problem.

Fewer players and all maps under review
What have the developers announced now? In a new community update on ea.com, the developers of Battlefield 6 addressed the maps. They stated that they take player feedback seriously and are reviewing the map design and size.
With the new maps, they want to offer additional variety and bring different play styles back into focus. They are looking not only at the current situation on the official servers but also at what players build in the Portal game mode.
The developers further explain regarding the balance of action and variety: “Maintaining this balance has always been a priority for us, and we are committed to offering a variety of map types in future seasons.” However, players do not have to wait that long.
What measures have the developers implemented immediately? The developers of Battlefield 6 took the first action shortly after the update. They reduced the maximum player count in Breakthrough mode on the maps: “Empire State”, “Manhattan Bridge”, “Liberation Peak”, “New Sobek City”, “Blackwell Fields”, and “Siege Of Cairo”.
Where previously 64 players faced off in 32vs.32 battles, now only 48 players fight in 24vs.24 battles. This results in fewer stalemates in the game and fewer kills are needed to advance. The maps Mirak Valley and Operation Firestorm have maintained their player size of 64 players.
This decision is controversial among fans. Under a post by @BFBulletin on X.com, many fans express their frustration with the change and state that player count was not the problem with the maps.
Finding the right balance is the top priority for the developers and it is also urgently needed, as players have been waiting far too long for changes.
