Players of Battlefield 5 have long awaited the developers to implement a hardcore mode. It is finally coming in Chapter 3 “Trial by Fire”, but it’s different than players expected.
What’s new? In a roadmap, EA announced how the shooter Battlefield 5 will continue in the future. Among other things, players can expect new maps, new missions, and the Firestorm mode. The announcement of the hardcore mode also caused quite a stir.
What is the problem with the hardcore mode? In the hardcore mode of Battlefield 5, the rules differ from the “normal” modes. Players die faster, and a large part of the helpful UI elements are hidden. One could say the difficulty is increased.
So the arrival of the hardcore mode in BF5 sounds good at first. However, the mode is only being introduced for the co-op game mode Combined Arms. Not for multiplayer. Players do not find that cool at all. They do not want to play against bots in hardcore mode, but against “real opponents”.
This is how players react: The community is reacting frustrated to EA’s announcement. In the Battlefield forums, it says: “Can the player who asked for a hardcore mode only for Combined Arms please step forward and explain why?”
On Reddit, people are asking, “Why is Combined Arms getting a hardcore mode when the community has been asking for a hardcore mode for multiplayer since launch?”
Player The_James_Spader says: “I was totally shocked when I read this. I was sure they were going to do this for multiplayer mode.”
So, the community is quite dissatisfied with the BF5 team’s decision.
These new contents are coming to Battlefield 5 in the next months: After Chapter 3, Chapter 4 will launch in June under the name “Defying the Odds”. This will bring new maps and game modes. A concept art shows what the map Marita is expected to look like.

Players can look forward to land, air, and sea invasions here. More detailed information about this is not yet available. EA says that the contents of the roadmap can still change. They are listening to player feedback.
