What has been seen so far? Although the announcement was almost three months ago, there is still relatively little gameplay of Battlefield 2042 to see. Nevertheless, some scenes, trailers, and details about the story have been presented in motion pictures.
- This includes the first reveal trailer, which created a real hype among fans and garnered millions of views
- Shortly after, the first proper gameplay trailer followed.
- Afterwards, the Portal mode was introduced in a video, where viewers could get a look at numerous map classics returning to Battlefield
- Finally, there was a short film about the story of Battlefield 2042, connecting the storyline of Battlefield 4 to the new installment.
Aside from that, there are also some alpha leaks and a trailer for the four specialists. We compile everything for you in this article.
Battlefield 2042 Reveal Trailer Evokes Battlefield Atmosphere
This is shown in the trailer: On June 9, Battlefield 2042 was finally officially revealed. The video is about 5 minutes long and shows numerous epic scenes with hints meant to appeal to Battlefield veterans.
Additionally, viewers could get a glimpse of some of the seven brand-new maps that will be available at the launch of Battlefield 2042:
- Kaleidoscope – Sogdo, South Korea
- Manifest – Brani Island, Singapore
- Orbital – Kourou, French Guiana
- Discarded – Alang, India
- Renewal – Eastern Desert, Egypt
- Hourglass – Doha, Qatar
- Breakaway – Queen Maud Land, Antarctica
However, real gameplay was still withheld from the fans at this point. But they didn’t have to wait long.
The first real gameplay of Battlefield 2042
This is shown in the trailer: With the shout “Incoming Fire!” the trailer kicks off with an action-packed start. Here too, there is another look at the game maps, this time directly from the perspective of a player.
As is typical with Battlefield, infantry rush into battle alongside vehicles and aircraft to take down the enemy. Here, large open spaces can be seen where combat occurs, as well as battles taking place inside and on buildings.
Players can even use zip lines to move between buildings. Or they can simply jump off with a wingsuit. For the first time, the Levolution feature is shown as a massive storm brews, dynamically changing the combat situation.
As in the reveal trailer, there are again typical “Battlefield moments”: A buggy packed with explosives, for instance, races off a roof directly into a helicopter.
Battlefield Portal Reveals Map Classics in a New Light
What is Portal? This mode was introduced at EA Play in July and is quite a substantial package. Portal was not developed by Battlefield creator DICE, but by Ripple Effect Studios, formerly DICE L.A.
The mode aims to be a “community-driven platform” that provides players extensive tools to “set their own rules” and hence create their own game modes.
Portal builds on three of the most popular Battlefield installments from the past 19 years, Battlefield 1942, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3.
Not only are 6 of the most popular map classics returning, but all vehicles, weapons, and other elements will be provided as well.
Which maps are included? Two maps per installment are expected. Veterans of each game will surely be familiar with these:
Battlefield 1942:
- El Alamein
- Battle Of The Bulge
Battlefield: Bad Company 2:
- Arica Harbor
- Valparaiso
Battlefield 3:
- Caspian Border
- Noshahr Canals
The maps will be brought up to the latest technical standards, which will significantly change the 19-year-old maps from Battlefield 1942.
Battlefield 2042 Exodus Short Film Shows the Overarching Story
What kind of short film is this? Although Battlefield 2042 does not have a story campaign, there is still a sort of narrative framework for the multiplayer.
The film aims to introduce this story and the setting of the shooter, which is known to be set over 20 years in the future.
DICE had previously released a timeline of events that occurred in the shooter’s world in the preceding years:
- The “greatest crisis in human history,” climate change, has plunged the world into chaos.
- In January 2034, a “global food and fuel shortage” breaks out.
- This leads to the “second great depression,” a massive global economic crisis.
- By August 2035, it is stated: “European Union officially dissolves after Germany’s state bankruptcy.”
The catastrophic situation ultimately leads to 1.2 billion people becoming stateless
