The new Battlefield 1 version 1.08 brings Platoons to the game. We show you how they work and what other changes were made in the update.
The World War shooter Battlefield 1 received a new update yesterday, which activated Platoons in the game, among other things. In these large teams, many players have a place and can easily regroup in the game. We explain what options you have in Platoons, what you can set there, and what they are useful for in this article.
Create Platoon – What is it good for?
After many players of Battlefield 1 frequently asked about Platoons, the developers can now present the first version of this feature. In this first release, the main functions of the Platoons in the game should be available. This basic system serves as the foundation for further patches in the future that can expand and improve the feature.
Create: Every player has the possibility to create a Platoon. The creator simultaneously receives the highest rank “General” and has the power over various settings such as:
- Name – 3 to 24 characters
- Tag – 1-4 alphanumeric characters
- Description – Here you can describe your Platoon in 256 characters
- Emblem – Choose an emblem from your emblem gallery for the Platoon.
- Access Type:
- Open – Any player can immediately join the Platoon
- Join Requests – Players can apply, and Platoon members with the appropriate rights can accept or decline these requests
- Closed – No player can join the Platoon
Searching for and joining Platoons: In Battlefield 1, the focus is on team play with Platoons. In the “Search Platoons” section, you can find other Platoons that are suggested to you by the game. The access type then determines how easily you can join this player group.
Representing Platoons: Those who play in a Platoon may want to show that to other players. You can only represent one Platoon at a time, but you also have the option not to represent any. You still remain a member and maintain your rank. This option can be easily toggled on and off. When turned on, the Platoon tag is displayed before your name and the emblem is shown in the usual place. Your equipped emblem will be overwritten by this.
If you prove your skill, the Platoon will be displayed even more prominently to other players. If your Platoon, which you represent, has contributed to the majority of a flag capture (with at least two members), your Platoon emblem will be displayed at the flagpole.
The advantage of Platoons is that you can always see where the members are currently playing. This way, you can quickly and easily join their battles and play together in a group.
The current limit is 100 people who can join a Platoon. If you are more people, you can simply create additional Platoons with the same name, tag, emblem, and description. You can be a member of up to 10 Platoons at the same time, but as mentioned before, you can only represent one. The 10-person limit also counts open join requests. So if you are already a member of eight Platoons and have two open join requests, the limit is reached. Leave groups or cancel requests to be able to join new Platoons. As the developers report, the limit may increase in the future.
Platoon Ranks – Who can do what?
There are four different ranks that you can achieve in a Platoon. The highest rank is General, and the lowest is Soldier. Here are the possibilities that you have with the different ranks in the Platoon:
- General: The highest rank in the Platoon has power over everything. As a creator, you are directly assigned this rank and can change names and tags and even dissolve the Platoon.
- Colonel: The second-highest rank in the Platoon has access to most of the administration tools. Can change descriptions, emblems, and access types.
- Lieutenant: This rank still has some options in the administration of the Platoon, but is primarily responsible for accepting and declining join requests. Additionally, it can link rented servers with a Platoon.
- Soldier: This rank is initially assigned to every new member upon joining the Platoon. Soldiers cannot make changes in the administration.
In general, you can promote another player within a Platoon to one rank below you and demote or kick other members who are at least one rank below you. As a Lieutenant, you can kick Soldiers, but Soldiers cannot kick other members. After a promotion, you retain the rank privileges, which are then added to the new ones.
Other Changes in Version 1.08
In the new patch, there were additional interesting changes aimed at improving gameplay and increasing enjoyment. For example, medics can now mark fallen players to indicate that they are on their way to them.
New features are also available in server management, which now offers password-protected servers, for example. Weapons, ribbons, and dog tags are additional aspects brought by the new update 1.08.
