The latest Battlefield 1 Update 1.07 brought many changes to the game. However, not all changes were documented in the patch notes.
Yesterday, the Update 1.07 for Battlefield 1 was released, activating several changes in the game. The biggest and most obvious changes are the They Shall not Pass contents with four new maps, new operations, and a new game mode. Besides these striking new contents, there were further changes that went unnoticed.
The reason for this is that some were not mentioned in the patch notes. Others, like the grenade changes, were probably overshadowed by larger features.
Exchange Scraps for Skins
Previously, you could only exchange scraps in Battlefield 1 for battlepacks to obtain weapon skins. However, this has changed since the last Patch 1.07 not only for premium players but for all players. Now you can obtain the contents of the battlepacks in another way.
Under the battlepack category in the game’s menu, there is now a new tab called Exchange. There you will find items that you can purchase with scraps. So it is no longer necessary to rely on luck for the right weapon skin with a battlepack. Items you like from this offer can be purchased directly.
Every time DICE releases a new battlepack revision, the items offered here will be rotated. The selection of these items includes not only weapons, but also puzzle pieces or squad XP boosts.
You can scrap weapons or items from battlepacks and keep the scraps you receive to buy a skin from this exchange selection that you like.
The community has long demanded another way to acquire items in the game. With this exchange system, the developers are making a significant step in the right direction. Even if DICE can still decide which items make it into this selection.
Changes to Gas Grenades
In the Battlefield 1 1.07 patch notes, the developers explained that they want to curb the excessive use of explosive equipment and grenades. To that end, they changed the method by which grenades are replenished. The main change is that the ammunition for gas, smoke, and mini grenades was reduced from 2 to 1. Additionally, ammo packs no longer replenish grenades.
To replenish grenades, you must stand by a crate and wait for the timer. This leads to significantly less grenade spam on the maps. If you are not satisfied with these changes, you can let the developers know in the forum. The system is still being tested and can be changed at any time.
Giant’s Shadow – Less Fog
These changes arose due to community feedback. The Giant’s Shadow map was released at the end of last year and has now received some significant changes. The fog density on this map has been reduced after many players complained about it.
After the fog set in on Giant’s Shadow, the vehicles on the map were hardly used due to the visibility being much too low. As a pilot, it was almost impossible to see what was happening on the ground. Tank drivers were constantly surprised by assault soldiers coming out of the dense fog.
Observe DLC Games without Premium
Another new feature in Patch 1.07 is the ability for non-premium players to observe DLC matches. This allows players to see the new content directly in the game without having to pay for it.
To do this, you select a DLC server in the server browser and join as a spectator. The new content shown can help players decide whether the DLC is worth it or not. Since many players in the community do not watch YouTube videos or streams, this is a good way for them to get a taste of the new content.
6 New Dog Tags
As Youtuber Westie explains in a video, DICE has implemented four new dog tags in the game that you receive for free. There are no conditions that you need to fulfill for these badges.
However, two additional new dog tags have unlocking conditions. For the “Frontlines” badge, you must win 100 games in the new Frontlines mode. The second badge is named “They Shall not Pass.” You receive it when you win a round on one of the four new DLC maps.
