The new role-playing game Baldur’s Gate 3 stirs up Twitch: One of the winners of the new hype around role-playing games is the Brazilian streamer “Luality”, who streams in English: She was able to increase her viewer numbers by 75% because her clips as a creative magician are simply good.
Who is she?
- Luality is a rather small streamer on Twitch who streams from Brazil: Although she has been broadcasting more than 1,600 hours a year since 2017, making it full time, she has only seen slow growth on Twitch: Over the last 6 years, it has slowly climbed to nearly 300 viewers.
- Since Baldur’s Gate 3 has been released, her channel has experienced a surge: Currently, she has about 630 viewers when she showcases the role-playing game. This is a 75% increase compared to the week “before Baldur’s Gate 3”.
- Her clips on Twitch, in which she creatively solves problems in Baldur’s Gate 3 or at least tries to, and her reactions to them, enchant the viewers.
Problem-solving with spells doesn’t always work in Baldur’s Gate 3
This clip is making her famous: In August, Luality released a clip that shows how she tries to walk through a plant-based minefield using the spell “Invisibility”.
It turns out to be not a very good idea.
Motionless, she watches as her character and the entire screen burst into flames, as if someone has dropped napalm, and she murmurs the famous meme: “It’s fine.”
Also notable is the clip where she apparently wants to cool down her heroine with an ice spell, to flirt with the Tiefling companion Kerlach. Again, her reaction is enchanting.
After being startled by the sparks, she concludes: “That’s so sweet.”
And there’s her ongoing streak of bad luck, which keeps getting worse. With every failed attempt, she suffers along:
Baldur’s Gate 3 changes Twitch, just like Among Us did
Why is Baldur’s Gate 3 making Twitch more exciting right now? Normally, “solo RPGs” are not games that perform particularly well on Twitch; they are usually played solo. Because the “linear storyline” that everyone experiences quickly becomes familiar from watching, and the game loses its appeal.
But Baldur’s Gate 3 has an interesting effect: With the focus on creative problem-solving and the many different paths one can take in the game, everyone has their own unique gaming experience. Since the game is turn-based and rather rugged, the personality of the streamer can shine through well and becomes more pronounced.
A similar effect was seen with the game “Among Us” during the pandemic, which also required role-playing and discussion skills from streamers and created a new generation of streamer stars: less because of their great reflexes and gameplay understanding, but because of their humor and personality.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently changing the landscape on Twitch. While hardcore shooter players are usually the ones on the rise in gaming, creativity is currently in vogue, and we see fresh faces:
Baldur’s Gate 3 is number 1 on Twitch, making role-players stars: One is even an NPC in the game
