The voice actor of Astarion from Baldur’s Gate 3 knows your secret. Because one of you has had the handsome elf made into a doll.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a role-playing game that has a rather relaxed approach to sex – after all, it is part of the story for many characters. However, for the community, this aspect seems to hold a special significance, as is evident not only in fanfictions but also in the media frenzy surrounding the notorious bear scene.
This affection for the characters sometimes goes even further. Because even the voice actor of Astarion knows that one of you spent a lot of money on a special doll modeled after the vampire elf.
What happened? A few days ago, Swen Vincke, the head of Larian, the developer of Baldur’s Gate 3, reacted to a post on the platform X. There was a product review on display – about a life-size statue of the character Astarion, along with an extensive review. Apparently, some female fan out there has had a sex doll made of Astarion for a whopping $20,000 (around €18,500).
This is how the voice actor reacted: Neil Newbon, the voice of Astarion, spoke together with some other voice actors from Baldur’s Gate 3 at the RetroGameCon, where questions from the audience were also allowed. In response to a question, he said:
I know about the sex doll for $22,000 of Astarion, I am aware of that. I have some thoughts on that. But hey, do what makes you happy.
The attendees – especially the female viewers – burst into loud laughter.
Jennifer English, who lends her voice to Shadowheart, then asks a bit shocked: “Why is it so expensive?”
Newbon replies: “I mean, 22 damn thousand. I hope it at least plays music or something.”
A statement that only fuels the laughter even more.
Devora Wilde, the voice of Lae’zel, then starts singing the song “Down by the River” – one of the more romantic pieces from the game.
The characters of Baldur’s Gate are also so popular, not least because the voice actors regularly appear in public and enjoy engaging with the community. That the characters often mean just as much to them as to the fans was demonstrated by Newbon at an award ceremony at the end of last year, when he almost breaks down in tears and explains how important Astarion is to him personally.
That someone cares so much about Astarion that they would spend $20,000 on a doll, he probably had no idea at that time.
