Many players choose to play through Baldur’s Gate 3 in coop with colleagues, friends, or partners. When a player suggests this to his wife, she doesn’t seem thrilled at all.
What does the player report? The player brebrecx shares a screenshot of the chat history between him and his wife on Reddit. He suggests that they should play Baldur’s Gate 3 together.
In the screenshot, he explains that his wife is also a gamer, but usually plays Stardew Valley or puzzle games. She doesn’t know much about Baldur’s Gate 3. Just one thing. And that one thing crushes the player’s hope.
“What? Isn’t that that creepy game where you can do it with elves?” is the response the player receives from his wife to his question.
She’s not entirely wrong, as you can indeed seduce elves in Baldur’s Gate 3, but it doesn’t stop with this race. However, the argument doesn’t seem to sway the player’s wife, quite the opposite.

How does the community react to the wife’s response? While many other players sympathize with the man, the comment with the most upvotes reflects what players are really confused about: “Funny, when I first heard [about the game], it was because of the bear” – (Afraid_Wave_1156 on Reddit).
CrimsonNight5621 also writes: “I believe that a large part of the game’s popularity is due to the Halsin scene, which was featured on every single gaming news website” (Source: Reddit).
In fact, a scene from a livestream by Larian featuring the druid Halsin in bear form managed to attract even previously uninterested players to Baldur’s Gate 3, as well as the player’s wife. Since the elf Astarion was also involved in the scene, she wasn’t entirely wrong – interestingly, she found the elf to be strange, or in her words, “creepy.”

How does the player “make things worse”? In another screenshot that brebrecx adds to his original post on Reddit, he tries to make a better case. Because Baldur’s Gate 3 offers even more than “just” elves:
“You don’t necessarily have to sleep with an elf. You can also sleep with a bear, a green lizard girl, a devil, a human, an octopus man or no one at all. You can just be friends with everyone.”
But his wife still doesn’t seem convinced. Under the screenshot, the player has to admit that the joint coop “probably won’t happen” (Source: Reddit).
