Back 4 Blood has revealed what else is in store for players – and there is a lot. Even the free updates sound promising.
When Back 4 Blood launched a few weeks ago, opinions were mixed. While many players appreciate the evolution of “Left 4 Dead,” others feel that certain game modes are missing. Most notably, the Versus Co-Op mode is missed.
Why do players want “Versus Co-Op”? Many veteran “Left 4 Dead” players long for a “Versus Co-Op”. This is essentially the familiar campaign, but players take on the role of the Special Zombies. Here, teams alternate playing against each other on a map, and the team that has collected the most progress at the end wins.
For many L4D veterans, the PvP campaign is essentially the true endgame and has kept the other zombie shooters fresh for years.
This mode is missing, which players continue to point out to the developers.
Whether this mode will eventually appear sometime over the coming year remains to be seen. It might be part of one of the planned DLCs – and the roadmap fuels hope for some players.
Back 4 Blood Roadmap – What’s Coming?
In broad terms, Back 4 Blood has also released the roadmap for 2022 and the rest of 2021. The further out the innovations are, the more roughly they are described.
What has been announced? A while ago, Back 4 Blood shared the rough plan for the release of new content in the current and coming year. There will be not only paid DLCs with new campaigns, but also a whole series of “free” updates and innovations. The following was announced:
- November Patch: The first major patch with bug fixes and balancing changes. The update is already live, with new hotfixes being pushed out in recent days.
- December Patch: The December update is expected to be significantly more extensive. It will include:
- New features like new supply lines
- a training ground for the zombies
- a special Christmas event
- the ability to play the campaign solo and offline – complete with campaign progress
- A new type of map
- Brand new maps – with one of them likely allowing weapon mods to be taken from weapons
- Updates 2022: In 2022, there will be even more improvements and new changes for everyone. These will include:
- A new difficulty level
- New maps for players
- New corruption cards
- New Co-Op mode
- Melee update
- General improvements
Particularly interesting is likely the new difficulty. Many are longing for an intermediate level between “Veteran” and “Nightmare” – whether it will actually come remains to be seen.
What kind of Co-Op mode is this? The biggest question marks likely revolve around the Co-Op mode. Many hope that it will be the much-loved “Versus Co-Op” – but then the mode would likely be described as a PvP mode. A “Holdout” mode seems more likely, where the Cleaners must withstand the Ridden for a limited time with limited resources.
What it ultimately becomes remains to be seen.
3 Story DLCs bring a lot of new content
In addition to the free updates for all players, there will also be 3 paid DLCs. Those who purchased one of the premium versions of the game already have the season pass for it.
The 3 DLCs are all set to be released in 2022, although there are no exact dates yet.
The first major DLC is named “Tunnels of Terror” and has at least already included a small screenshot. It shows a dark terrain resembling a swamp – but is probably a cave complex.
All 3 major DLCs are set to bring new campaign chapters along with further innovations, namely:
- Additional Cleaners
- New Special Zombies
- A new “Activity Type”
- New weapons
- New maps
- Exclusive skins
So, those who enjoy Back 4 Blood can look forward to new content and expansions for the campaign soon. As more bugs and issues of the release version are being removed, there should soon be new and more precise information about the upcoming content.
