Mara Sov has returned to Destiny 2 after a long disappearance, and her exciting story is gradually being revealed. MeinMMO unveils her hidden side, what is really behind the ‘great’ queen with the charming demeanor?
There are two queens: In Destiny 2, the story of the Awoken Queen is in full swing. Mara Sov had been in hiding for years, leaving the Guardians with a big question mark on their faces. The mystical queen has returned, and together the next threat will be fought – Savathun, the Witch Queen.
But what many do not know is that Mara has a dark and selfish side that she hides under compassion and false intentions for the common good. Many Guardians had the image of a mysterious queen who is very focused on her people and works for good in the background.
But what if all of this was just a veil hiding the truth? What if Mara is sailing closer to the darkness than we knew, and it seems like she is full speed ahead into the heart of darkness.
Mara Sov was responsible for the death of her beloved brother
This is the story of two siblings: Our loyal and naive Guardian friend “Crow” was not always a Guardian. During the attack on the tomb ship by the Taken King “Oryx”, Uldren Sov, the brother of the Awoken Queen, was corrupted and Mara supposedly died.
Anyone who has played Destiny 1 should know the conceited Uldren. He was not particularly popular. Many would have liked to polish his face with the Last Word. But when he learned of his sister’s death, an overwhelming grief overcame him.

Riven, the Thousand Voices, played an important role at that time. Uldren wished for the dying Fallen “Fikrul”, also known as the Fanatic, to be revived. Thus, mockery arose, and Riven took a seat in Uldren’s mind.
Desperate and manipulated by Riven, Uldren set out to find his sister, whom he believed to be dead. For deep down, he knew that their two hearts still beat in sync.
Mara – who, as we now know – was not dead, did not inform her brother Uldren of her survival. She left him in the dark and let him run to his doom. All the consequences that came with the expansion of “Forsaken” could have been prevented if Mara had informed her brother of her survival.
What has Mara done? Mara knew everything about her brother. She knew his strengths but also his weaknesses. In Season 15, you will piece together the story of the two siblings by collecting the Atlas images. Crow tells you in this case a children’s story about the events of the two siblings. Mara, on the other hand, explains the metaphors behind the story of the two “birds”.
By then, every Guardian should realize that Mara deliberately manipulated her brother to maintain constant control. The new exotic “Ager’s Scepter” was supposed to be meant for Uldren, which Mara kept hidden from him the entire time.
Now we can go out and obtain and use the strong exotic ourselves:
With this Stasis weapon, he could have faced any enemy. Uldren would have taken on his role as protector and king of the Awoken here, but Mara did not see him in that role, as he seemed too easily manipulated.
What players fear: Since Crow currently knows nothing of his past (until the reset on September 28), Uldren could react to the veiled information. Every Awoken sees him as a traitor and distrusts him. The Vanguard keeps his former identity under wraps (after all, he killed Cayde, which the residents of the Last City resent him for). And we, meaning THE Guardian, his best friend, could be his murderer (whether Petra or we killed Uldren remains unclear).
Right there lies the flaw in Mara’s actions. The queen neither speaks with Crow nor allows him to participate in the rescue mission of Osiris. As a result, Crow feels excluded.
If Mara does not overcome her reluctance and finally speaks openly with Crow/Uldren, he will feel compelled to talk to the witch queen “Savathun”. If Uldren is informed about all the events by the wicked witch, it could have unforeseen consequences, and probably Mara could lose her brother a second time.
Exactly that has now occurred – as you can see here in German:
Now Crow is separating himself from the Vanguard and wants to be pulled from the operation to rescue Osiris. Ikora, on the other hand, supports Uldren’s hasty distancing and offers him a position as a mediator for the Cabal princess “Caitl”. Thus, he can gain some distance for a while and hopefully come to terms with the long-past events.
What else does Mara have up her sleeve?
Bungie incorporates many Easter eggs and mysteries into Destiny 2. However, one very unusual one is the last Ahamkara egg, which is located near Mara Sov’s location.
Ahamkara are a mix of dragons and djinn: They are dangerous and grant wishes. Actually, we killed the last of these Ahamkara, Riven, in the raid. Is Mara then breeding a Riven 2.0, a new raid boss that can fulfill her wishes?
This egg is kept behind tightly closed doors, you can admire it in Mara’s quarters:
What does this mean? The queen could thus secure a backdoor in case the plan to deal with Savathun fails. Since Mara Sov has established a monopoly on “wishes” after the great hunt of the Ahamkara, it could also mean that she wants to secure her power again.
The story of the Awoken Queen seems very abstract. Much still appears opaque, and only time can reveal further clues about the unfolding of the story. In any case, we Guardians should not rejoice just because a cold beauty is giving us pretty eyes – for she is full of evil secrets and has more of the Witch Queen Savathun than we would have liked.
What do you think of the story between the good-hearted Uldren and the treacherous Mara? Do you have a different opinion and trust the queen, or do you want her to be held accountable and finally take responsibility for her actions? Let us know.
