At the Oscars 2024, there was a beautiful scene on March 11 when the Oscar for Best Visual Effects was awarded. The two stars of the 1988 comedy Twins came on stage: Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito. They had unfinished business.
That was the appearance of the two: The unlikely pair strolled onto the stage to the standing applause of Hollywood stars. The camera showed John Krasinski and Emily Blunt applauding.
DeVito explained that he was on stage with Arnold for “completely obvious reasons.” Schwarzenegger added, “We both tried to kill Batman”:
- De Vito was the supervillain “The Penguin” in Batman Returns (1992)
- Schwarzenegger played Mr. Freeze in ‘Batman & Robin’ (1997).
The two then chatted on stage about how Batman had defeated them: Batman could only overcome Schwarzenegger through his only weakness: Heat?
, asked DeVito – “Love,” replied Schwarzenegger.
The Penguin, on the other hand, was unceremoniously thrown out of the window.
De Vito and Schwarzenegger spot Batman in the audience
That was the highlight: The camera then caught Michael Keaton in the audience, the original Batman who had caught the Penguin. Although Schwarzenegger had dealt with George Clooney in his film, within the context of the sketch, Schwarzenegger also identified the 73-year-old Keaton as the true Batman.
“There he is,” shouted DeVito. “He’s right over there.”
“You really have some nerve showing up here,” said Schwarzenegger. “You son of a bitch.”
Keaton smiled coldly in the audience and made the “Come here” gesture.
DeVito called him “Beakbreaker” and challenged him to a fight after the Governor’s Ball before they moved on to the award ceremony, ending this brief piece of Hollywood history that reminds us that there were superheroes and supervillains even before Iron Man.
These are the comments: The best comment on YouTube is: Why do they call the billionaire Bruce Wayne Batman?
Who won the Oscar then? The Oscar for Best Visual Effects was ultimately awarded by Schwarzenegger and DeVito to “Godzilla Minus One”:
