The Corona pandemic posed a significant challenge to many people at the time. When a father realized that his son was spending way too much time with his gaming console, he came up with an idea:
To engage him otherwise, he set him a specific challenge: to transform the old garden shed into a miniature house for his younger sister, who dreamed of a room with a floor and a staircase.
14-Year-Old Builds a House for His Sister in His Parents’ Garden Shed
The then 14-year-old son got to work: Within a week, the teenager designed and realized the structure, cut the boards, screwed them together, painted the house, and decorated it. The father explained to the English-speaking magazine TheSun in an interview that he was mainly concerned with keeping his son engaged:
I assigned this task to Brad because I know he is handy, but instead of building something, he spends his days playing video games. I only helped him when he was tired or unsure of what to hold. Or when he was using sharp tools. But overall, he did everything himself and wanted to be independent while building.
The construction work cost about 200 British pounds (approximately 230 euros), which remained limited thanks to the reused materials that his father, a site manager in construction, already had on hand.
The father posted his son’s work on Facebook. The post received more than 27,000 likes on the platform and thus attracted attention beyond the family circle. Several construction companies, particularly in Florida and Australia, contacted the family to offer Brad future job opportunities, as they were impressed by the quality of his work at his age. The father remarked:
He was even offered jobs in Florida and Australia – we could hardly believe it!

A Bar in the Garden is the Next Project of the 14-Year-Old
By the way, it didn’t stop with his sister’s house. As a second project, he started building a garden bar for his father’s birthday. Here, he used his learned skills and gained confidence to build the bar in his parents’ garden:
The bar is now finished and simply great. We spent every evening there. Again, the costs amounted to around £250 [287 euros], as we used a lot of wood that I brought home from work.
