The MMORPG Ashes of Creation offers you 9 different playable races for character creation. Each of them brings different advantages. We from MeinMMO present them to you in detail.
What races are there? The 9 playable races in Ashes of Creation are divided as follows:
- Kaelar and Vaelune are human races
- Empyrean and Py’Rai are elves
- Dünir and Niküa are dwarves
- Ren’Kai and Vek are orcs
- Tulnar are a unique race added due to the great success on Kickstarter.
Each race brings different bonuses for your character. Each race has different base values at character creation. The further development of the values, however, is not related to the races.
Additionally, the race has a slight influence on the skills of your primary, but not the secondary class. These effects can be either playful or cosmetic.
Furthermore, there are special armor sets and mounts adapted to the playable races. Also, the nodes that make the MMORPG so special are influenced by the playable races. The race that has made the greatest contribution alters the appearance of the city’s buildings.
Is there a “race lock”? No. While one race may work better with a specific class, each class has access to all 9 playable races.

This is the background of the individual races
In the following paragraph, we will present the different playable races again with their descriptions from the above image. The article will be updated with the launch of the alpha/beta and supplemented with information on base values, peculiarities, and skins of the races.
The Humans
The Aela humans are divided into the two races Kaelar and Vaelune. The humans are the largest nation in all of Verra, the world of Ashes of Creation.
These are the Kaelar: Building. Order. Civilization. These are the fundamental principles of the Kaelar. Their realm in the old world was the largest of all, and they plan to do the same in this world. The Kaelar are extremely loyal to their roots and will rise to the challenge.
These are the Vaelune: Trade. Justice. Tenacity. The Vaelune were forged in the heat of the desert and emerged renewed from it. By focusing on trade, the Vaelune became one of the wealthiest empires in the land. They are no strangers to the idea of kill or be killed, whether it is the beasts in the harsh desert or the snakes in the marketplace.
The Dwarves
The dwarves live in the mountains of Verra, which are considered very matriarchal and represent the oldest race in the game. They are divided into the playable races Dünir and Niküa.
These are the Dünir: Stoic. Tradition. Smithing. Most peoples of the old world would see a mountain and think nothing of it. The Dünir saw a defensible home, one filled with great wealth. The Dünir are immensely proud of what they craft and build: fortifications that appear impregnable, war hammers that never break, or beautiful gemstones for their kingdom are part of their repertoire. Do not be fooled by their sturdy stature. They are pound for pound the strongest warriors the world has ever seen.
These are the Niküa: Family. Freedom. Courage. While the Dünir saw mountains as home, the Niküa saw them as prison. How could they complete the great hunt in a cave? Their brothers’ craftsmanship does not elude them, as they are also highly skilled artisans. Instead of jewelry for the nobility, the Niküa see craftsmanship as a right to advance the education of the family. Will you lead your people out of the mountains of your ancestors?

The Elves
The elves lived in the forests of Verra and had one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in the world. They particularly enjoyed sharing their knowledge of art and science with themselves and the other races in Verra. However, due to their patriarchal society, they mainly stay within the natural borders of their forests.
These are the Empyrean: Imperial. Proud. Cultural. Although not as numerous as the Kaelar, the Empyreans are a power to be reckoned with. They have elite forces and a highly structured government. The people of Empyrea certainly have a plan to take their place in the world.
These are the Py’Rai: Nature. Balance. Rage. All things come into balance over time, and nature always finds its way. However, one should not be deceived by their love for nature. The Py’Rai rarely take prisoners. They defend their heritage with bow and spear and thus the Py’Rai will strike new roots in Verra.
The Orcs
The orcs in Ashes of Creation are guided by tradition. The Ren’Kai rely more on their inner strength, while the Vek are led by shamanism.
These are the Ren’Kai: Honor. Power. Composure. By remaining introspective, their strength only grows. The Ren’Kai believe in ultimate focus and control of their immense power. However, when a Ren’Kai becomes angry, there are not many men or beasts that survive to tell the tale.
These are the Vek: Otherworldly. Determined. Fateful. When one looks at the stars, they find the beauty that lies beyond our world. When a Vek looks at the stars, they see that fate lies beyond our time. Star charts, numerology, and prophecy are integral parts of every Vek’s life. Great leaders read the sky to foresee how wars will unfold, which empires will rise and fall, and the Vek often ask themselves: “Are we too late?”

The Tulnar
The Tulnar are a special race. You will be able to shape them according to your wishes. They can take on a human, reptilian, or mammalian form.
According to lore, the Tulnar are beings left behind by various races, who have evolved in Verra over millennia and through numerous catastrophes. So far, there are only various silhouettes of the race:
While all other playable races are brought back to Verra by the gods according to lore, the Tulnar are the race that was already present in the “underrealm” of the planet.
The “underrealm” contains unknown flora and fauna and is the reason why the node system is intertwined with the lore. Creatures from the underrealm are expected to emerge with the growth of the nodes, leading to new dungeons and raids.
