The two MMORPGs Asheron’s Call and Asheron’s Call 2 are coming to an end.
This morning came the news that developer teams would leave Turbine and take their MMOs with them. For Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons and Dragons Online, life continues. But not for Asheron’s Call and Asheron’s Call 2.
The servers will close on January 31, 2017. Anyone who still has an account can continue playing for free until then. However, new accounts cannot be created.
With a heavy heart, Asheron’s Call and Asheron’s Call 2 will close in January 2017
In the Asheron’s Call forum, players express their regret over the decision, stating that it was made with a heavy heart. They had a good run, one of the longest in MMORPG history. The team is proud to have worked on Asheron’s Call for almost 20 years for the community.

Asheron’s Call was released in 1999, a few months after Everquest, and has been in “standby” mode since 2014, meaning it was no longer developed. At its peak in the early 2000s, the game is said to have had around 120,000 players.
Asheron’s Call 2 was released in 2002, closed in December 2005 due to a lack of players, was reopened by Turbine in December 2012, and now announces its final closure in December 2016. It seems that December is the month of fate for the title.
