With the new DLC “Extinction”, the story of ARK: Survival Evolved will reach a new peak. Studio Wildcard promised that the expansion will answer many players’ questions.
What is Extinction about? Extinction is the third major expansion to be released for ARK: Survival Evolved. Survivors will find themselves on Earth, which has been devastated. Vegetation and a mysterious disease are gradually taking over the planet. Players will encounter a mix of fantasy and science fiction.
ARK’s story will reach a peak with Extinction
Players will learn what the deal is with the dinos and ARKs: Studio Wildcard’s co-founder Jesse Rapczak explained that Extinction will represent a culmination of the ARK story. Survivors will finally discover where the creatures they have always fought, tamed and kept as pets, come from. Extinction will also explain what the ARKs are, featured in all expansions of the game.
Survivors begin Extinction in a city: The story begins in a yet unnamed city. There will also be an area called “No Man’s Land”. The environment will consist of a mix of already known and new biomes. Players will find clues of a civilization that seems to have long disappeared.
The element “Element” makes dinos stronger, but also takes control
In “No Man’s Land” you will encounter the Element: Element flows through the land in veins. Dinos are attracted to the element and consume it. However, if they ingest Element, they become highly aggressive and change their behavior. The animals become corrupted and gain a “hive mind” mentality. Yet, they also become stronger because of the Element.
Element will be a valuable resource for survivors, worth fighting for: In Extinction, there will be a regular “Tower Defense” event where players will face off against the corrupted dinos. You can imagine it as a wave-based shooter, where more and more waves of enemies come. Survivors want Element as a resource and must prevent the dinos from consuming it.
