A major server rollback for ARK Survival Evolved was performed on PS4 and Xbox One. The reason was a bug that deleted players’ profiles and characters. Some lost their pets and structures in the process.
ARK Survival Evolved officially launched on August 29 in full release, making it a “finished” game. The survival MMO had previously been in Early Access for two years.
The start as a full title, however, has been somewhat bumpy for ARK. Immediately after launch, there were technical issues with the servers, causing them to come online late. Players then had difficulty finding an available spot.
Now the next problem followed: Players on PS4 and Xbox One lost their profiles and characters due to a bug.
After the problem was recognized and fixed, Studio Wildcard conducted a server rollback for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This was meant to restore players’ characters. A “rollback” resets the game to an earlier state, so what has happened in the meantime no longer counts.
However, for some players, the characters remained deleted. Other players lost part of their dinos or structures due to the rollback.
Quick Taming & More XP – Evolution Event Comes as Compensation
As compensation, there is an Evolution Event in ARK this weekend. The event brings:
- 2 x Taming
- 2 x Farming
- 2 x XP
Players can thus recover their losses more quickly. The Evolution Event runs from September 8 – September 11, so from today until Monday.
On ARK’s official Twitter, there were several posts about the rollback and server issues. Frustration was widespread in the comments, and some players already demanded their money back. Other users reacted with praise for the studio and admired that the staff works around the clock to get ARK running properly.
