In ARK there is now a new type of server: On the “Extinction” servers, players only have 30 days before everything is wiped out.
New creatures invade the island of ARK
The Xbox One version of ARK: Survival Evolved has received a pretty powerful update. The centerpiece of the patch is three new creatures that will now make the island unsafe and the new “Extinction” servers.
- The Wooly Rhino is actually peaceful, but when it charges, you should quickly get out of the way, as it can take down even the most powerful dinosaurs in seconds.
- In the deep waters, however, there is the Dunkleosteus, an armored fish with a powerful jaw. It is excellent for battles in the cool depths, but even after its death, you can still extract a lot of chitin from its carcass.
- Lastly, the Eurypterid has been added, a large lobster with powerful claws. While this creature cannot be tamed, you can extract pretty potent poisons from its remains – sometimes even black pearls, which are required for certain technologies.
After 30 days, a meteor destroys the island
Also new are the so-called “Extinction” servers, which are primarily designed for new players. On these servers, there is a time limit of 30 days before a meteor devastates the island and resets all progress. Players will be rewarded with various badges for their achievements. It is also important to note that the Extinction servers are completely new servers – the existing number of “regular” servers does not shrink.
In addition, the patch brought several other improvements. Once again, the frame rate has been tinkered with, and if everything works as promised, players should notice an improvement of 10% again. Lastly, players who are “stuck underground” will automatically be teleported back to the surface.
