In the battle royale shooter Apex Legends, there is currently a solo mode, but it is already under fire. Teams are simply playing together anyway – and frustrating the opponents.
This is the situation: Actually, Apex Legends is a game designed for 3-player teams. For a long time, Respawn refused to implement a solo mode that was requested.
Now the mode is here, albeit only for a short time.
But players are already complaining that they are being taken apart as lone wolves by players who cooperate.
Why is it so easy to play solo as a team? The problem is likely how Apex Legends matches players together: if players sign up for a solo match at the same time, there is a high chance they will end up in the same match.
So you just have to coordinate when you sign up – for instance, via Teamspeak – and then you’re off together, enjoying easy kills when you shoot at individual players in pairs or threes.
Solo mode is frustrating for lone wolves
This is how players are reacting: The “honest” players are furious. They were looking forward to a solo mode where only their skill decides whether they win or lose. On reddit, there are threads like “If you team up with your mates in solos, you’re a piece of shit (via reddit).”
Players say they faced 4 people in the solo mode of Apex Legends at the same time. They find it ridiculous overall – and it needs to be solved somehow.

Teaming is the plague of solo modes in battle royale
Has it happened before?? Yes, this behavior has occurred in practically every battle royale game before Apex Legends. “Teaming” is a problem in Fortnite or PUBG.
Especially in competitive modes, it has already led to bans, when solo players teamed up or cooperated in Fortnite to boost their points and ultimately secure placements and, in the worst case, prize money.
In December 2018, Fortnite pros staged a ridiculous spectacle in a tournament by intentionally and visibly shooting past each other. They did not want to harm each other to survive and grab the points.
In some cases, the developers were after these “teamers” and issued bans – but that is labor-intensive.
What happens now? It is unclear how Apex Legends will respond to the situation – especially since the mode is only in the game for a short time. Currently, Respawn is already facing significant backlash, as they have pushed the envelope with microtransactions.
The event is supposed to run until August 27 – many were actually looking forward to it. The event in Apex Legends has also received some praise, but the problems are being loudly discussed right now.
