More details about Anthem have been revealed. It is now known that the playable character will not remain silent – you can also choose between male or female.
After the presentation of almost 20 minutes of gameplay footage from BioWare’s upcoming coop shooter Anthem, some questions were raised by the community. Viewers of the video could not clearly assign the voices in the game. What was a character? What was a player? And can you choose the voice? Yes, you can.
Gender selection has been confirmed. Apart from the narrator, the gameplay video only showed characters from the game and their voice output – it did not feature dialogues “between players”. At the same time, lead producer Michael Gamble confirmed that players can assign a male or female voice to their character at the beginning. Thus, it is confirmed that the player’s character will also take on a role in cutscenes and dialogues.
Nothing unusual for BioWare. The selection of the gender for the playable character is almost always standard at BioWare. Whether in Star Wars: The Old Republic, Mass Effect, or Dragon Age – almost always, the gender and thus the voice of the character can be determined.
However, it is still unclear whether different players will have different voices and whether the voices of other characters will be heard during the game. It would be at least strange if the characters conversed and all had an identical voice.
Most fans suspect that the voice will only be used during the interaction “with the story” and will not be heard by other players.
Do you think it’s good that you can give your character male or female voices in Anthem? Or is this choice actually not necessary?
