Why is Blood-C rated 18? Like most other series on this list, Blood-C does not hold back when it comes to the depiction of bloodthirsty violence. Monsters are severed by the dozen, quartered, and massacred with a samurai sword, leaving the streets soaked in blood. Although many believe the story does not quite measure up to “Blood+”, genre fans are likely to embrace this bloody slaughter.
Afro Samurai
Alternative names: /
Genre: Action, Adventure
Episodes: 5 (+ movie)
Stream available on: Crunchyroll
At a young age, Afro witnesses his father being struck down by a mysterious man named “Justice”. He steals his “Headband Number 1” in order to acquire his godlike powers.
Years later, Afro has managed to fight his way to the top and obtain Headband Number 2 – which grants him the right to confront his father’s murderer. The problem, however, is that by wearing Headband Number 2, Afro has himself become the target of countless enemies, all trying to dispute this new right from him.
Why is Afro Samurai rated 18? The rating mainly comes from the movie “Afro Samurai: Resurrection”, which is part of the saga of the story. Afro Samurai is not timid in its depiction of violence during battles, and the movie takes it up a notch. Thus, it is not surprising that this rather short series does not belong in children’s hands – but this brutality is simply part of the anime’s unique style.
Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage

Rokurou Okajima, mostly referred to as “Rock”, joins the Lagoon Company – a mercenary group. The group consists of ruthless criminals who carry out dubious assignments for various organizations – whether for corrupt politicians, dictatorial rulers, or corporate bosses who see their profits at risk.
Rock is unsure whether he should stay with the Lagoon Company, yet for now, it is his only place of refuge and the only people who have offered him a sort of home. However, with each assignment, his guilty conscience eats away at him – and every further mission could be his last.
Why is Black Lagoon rated 18? The second season of Black Lagoon is even more bloody and brutal than the first season – which was to be expected in a series revolving around arms trading and organized crime. Nevertheless, some representations here are not only very brutal but also quite disturbing. They remain in memory for a long time – and that is precisely why they should only be seen at an appropriate age. Fans of the first season will hardly be able to resist the second – but then they likely appreciate harder themes anyway.
Are there more anime rated 18? Yes, this is even the case with many anime. Apart from hentai productions, which receive the “18+” label for obvious reasons, many series also initially receive a provisional rating of no youth release – especially when they have not been reviewed or no review has been requested. For this reason, you also need to present an ID when ordering many anime imports that have not officially been released in Germany.
