The German developer studio PlayWithFurcifer has landed a hit with Backpack Battles on Steam. Now the game is leaving Early Access with an update that makes fans happy.
What kind of game is this? The developers describe Backpack Battles as “inventory strategy autobattler.” This means:
- In the shop, you buy special items for your hero, which you thoughtfully place and combine in your backpack.
- With a packed backpack, you face off against other players in duels. These battles are conducted automatically.
- Your success in battles depends not only on the quality of your equipment but also on how it is stored.
Each backpack thus becomes a kind of build with which you compete against the backpacks of others. With this principle, Backpack Battles has gained many fans:
- 90% of nearly 14,000 reviews on Steam are positive.
On June 13, 2025, the game left Early Access. With version 1.0, Backpack Battles also makes it onto the list of the most popular Steam releases – directly behind The Alters, Dune: Awakening, and Stellar Blade (via steamdb.info, as of June 15, 2025).

Release update includes new classes and items
With the release, the developers are also releasing a new update: This includes numerous new content and improvements for the game, including two new classes: the Mage and the Adventurer. In addition, you can expect among other things:
- New class items and an outfit for all existing classes.
- Steam achievements and trading cards.
- Status displays and tooltips.

How is the update being received? Players are pleased. The game was already really good in Early Access and is becoming even better with the update.
- Steam user XiiSu writes in their review: “Backpack Battles in version 1.0 is really fun, the new update brings noticeable improvements in balance and item variety.”
- NishBlob has already spent nearly 100 hours in the game and writes: “Was already enjoying the game in early access as it was – they have really gone above and beyond my expectations with the 1.0 release.”
- Crimson_Chin84 has even invested over 570 hours into the game and can only recommend it to fans of games like Balatro or Slay the Spire.
- PureMike writes after around 400 hours: “Absolutely recommended! Been here since beta – and the release is really well done.”
The most popular release on Steam, however, remains Stellar Blade. The PS5 game is known not only for its excellent combat feel but also for its very provocatively dressed characters. On PC, there are now mods for Stellar Blade – what came out of it, you could have guessed.
