AMD has released a software update for its graphics cards. The advantage of the update: FSR 4, AMD’s DLSS alternative, can now be activated in numerous games. This can significantly increase FPS. However, one limitation remains: You need a modern AMD graphics card for FSR 4.0.
What is this update? AMD has distributed the update with version number 25.9.1 for its AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition. But there’s more to the update than just a few simple bug fixes. In AMD’s patch notes, there’s a note: “FSR 4 can be activated for most games that support FSR 3.1 with DirectX 12.”
What does this mean now? You can now use the much better version FSR 4.0 in games that previously officially only supported FSR 3.1. A list of all games that support FSR 4.0 can be found directly on MeinMMO.
FSR 4.0 is only available for RX 9000 series graphics cards
What is FSR 4.0 anyway? AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (short FSR) is AMD’s upscaling method and alternative to DLSS: A game is rendered in low resolution and then upscaled to the correct resolution. FSR 4.0 has been a tremendous improvement over its predecessor FSR 3.0 since its release and can easily compete with DLSS 3.0. Only Nvidia’s successor, DLSS 4.0, is still significantly more powerful.
What’s the catch? AMD’s FSR 4.0 is currently only available on AMD graphics cards of the current generation (RX 9000) as of 09/10/2025. Currently, these are the RX 9070 and RX 9060, including the faster XT models. Older graphics cards from the RX 6000 and RX 7000 series are currently not supported.
