Rank 1: Remus Lupin
- School year: 3
The undisputed best teacher for “Defense Against the Dark Arts” was, of course, Remus Lupin. He had simply everything one could wish for in a teacher:
First of all, he was extremely knowledgeable in his field. He had experience fighting dark wizards and was also very well-read. He was also able to skillfully pass on this knowledge to his students. He taught both theory and practice while approaching it with the necessary empathy. He was always friendly, yet firm and was not easily ruffled.
Hardly any other teacher would have been able to teach Harry the difficult Patronus spell in his third year.
Lupin’s greatest flaw was of course his existence as a werewolf. However, he actually handled that well. Unfortunately, there are many prejudices against werewolves in the wizarding world, which is why he had to give up his position after a year.

A teacher who consciously does not appear in this ranking is Amycus Carrow. He took over the position after Voldemort took power in part 7 and installed Severus Snape as headmaster. Under him, the subject was renamed “Dark Arts” as it was no longer about defense, but about the practice of dark magic. How powerful Amycus Carrow was, you can find out in the ranking of the most dangerous Death Eaters here on MeinMMO: Harry Potter: The 10 most dangerous Death Eaters in the power ranking
