1. Season 1
- Highest rated episode on IMDb: Episode 8 (Chapter eight: The Other Side) with a rating of 9.3 out of 10 from over 50,800 ratings.
In 2016, Stranger Things was a phenomenon at its launch. This was not only because it was the first series of its kind. Compared to all other seasons, the first still feels special. Right from the first episode, Season 1 feels like a lost Spielberg film. The mystery surrounding Will’s disappearance captivates immediately, and thanks to the lighting mood, a feeling arises that you know from 80s Spielberg films.
It is threatening, mysterious, but also cozy, and you feel comfortable. This is also due to the performances of David Harbour as Hopper and especially Winona Ryder as Joyce. She carries most of the first season and makes many of the scenes that intense.
What is often forgotten too: Season 1 has many well-executed horror scenes that would also work in a classic film. The camera work and sound design are really good here, and the Demogorgon as the only monster truly creates awe, which was somewhat lost later with the many monsters.
All in all, one of the best seasons of a series you can watch on Netflix.
