Indiana Jones is a popular and long-lasting series that has so far produced five movies. But which one is actually the best? We clarify this question in our ranking.
Indiana Jones is a film series that was launched in 1981 by director Steven Spielberg and producer George Lucas. So far, the franchise has produced five theatrical films. In our ranking, we want to clarify how they compare to each other and which is the best Indy film.
We focus exclusively on the cinematic adventures of Dr. Jones and his companions. The TV series, books, or comics play no role here. Also, please note that the list is purely subjective and based on the author’s opinion. If your personal ranking differs, feel free to let us know in the comments.
Place 5: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
The fourth part came to cinemas in 2008 after a long hiatus. Steven Spielberg directed once again, but not much of the magic of the first three films remained. The story now takes place not before World War II, but during the Cold War. Accordingly, Indy goes up against the Russian adversaries.
What is particularly notable about this film is that Indy meets his son. However, when comparing the relationship between father and son with that from part 3, the fourth film falls short. Some oddly absurd scenes (the atomic explosion where Indy survives in a refrigerator!), coupled with weak visual effects, make The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull one of the weaker installments in the series.
As usual, the work of directing master Spielberg is solid, though not as innovative as in the predecessors.
