Submachine guns are the little helpers in close combat of the Call of Duty: Warzone and should be included in almost every strong loadout. MeinMMO asked you which submachine guns you currently enjoy playing the most, and in this article, you will find the complete ranking with weapon setups for the top 5.
Submachine guns, or simply “SMGs”, bring mobility to your gameplay. Unlike the popular assault rifles, you aim faster, have a higher movement speed, and deal more damage in close combat. SMGs thus bring mobility to your gameplay and the opportunity to score in close quarters.
There was a time in Call of Duty: Warzone when submachine guns had no chance against the strong close combat assault rifles. But now, the mobile close combat fighters are firmly part of the weapon meta, and we wanted to know from you: Which ones do you actually use? The survey started on October 17 at 1 PM, and 1,209 readers responded (as of October 19, 1:30 PM). You can find the ranking here:
Submachine Guns in Season 6 – Positions 21 to 11
- Position 21: ISO – 2 votes
- Position 18: KSP 45 – 3 votes
- Position 18: Nail gun – 3 votes
- Position 18: Striker 45 – 3 votes
- Position 17: Uzi – 6 votes
- Position 16: P90 – 8 votes
- Position 15: Fennek – 13 votes
- Position 14: PP19 Bizon – 15 votes
- Position 13: TEC-9 – 24 votes
- Position 12: CX-9 – 29 votes
- Position 11: LC10 – 30 votes
There are some submachine gun models that hardly hold up against the strong alternatives in Warzone. Some are too geared towards multiplayer mode, like the ISO. Also, SMGs with a fire burst that fires multiple rounds at once receive only a few votes (Striker/KSP).
Note: The new LAPA SMG was not part of the survey yet. The weapon appears with the Halloween event 2021.
Submachine Guns in Season 6 – Positions 10 to 6
- Position 10: AUG from CoD MW – 38 votes
The submachine gun was the hit in the first weeks after the release of Warzone and convinced with damage and control when you used the conversion to 5.56 rounds. It is precisely these rounds that make the AUG SMG strong again today and give you a pleasant time aiming and high damage. However, the AUG lags somewhat behind in movement speed.
- Position 9: Milano 821 – 48 votes
The Milano had a very strong phase at the beginning of the year and had to endure a few nerfs. Back then, the SMG even competed with assault rifles. The SMG is not that powerful anymore now. However, its high range, good control, and slow fire rate make the Milano an SMG that is easy to use and delivers secure kills. Just don’t miss – due to the low fire rate, the time-to-kill increases significantly.
- Position 8: MP7 – 66 votes
The MP7 has always been good in Warzone – especially hipfire setups provide strong performance. However, hipfire is not the usual playstyle in close quarters of the Battle Royale, and thus the MP7 flew under the radar for long. Now, the release weapon from CoD MW is considered part of the meta because the recoil goes almost straight up, enabling wonderfully easy control. Together with the FiNN LMG, you can build a loadout that has almost no recoil. However, its second damage range is weak.
- Position 7: AK-74u – 86 votes
The Russian SMG solution has also freshly appeared in the meta and has been gaining more fans ever since. The weapon expert “TrueGameData” describes the AK-74u as the “better Bullfrog” because it offers a similar value package but comes with less recoil and provides slightly more damage. A deeper introduction and a small comparison with the Bullfrog can be found here.
- Position 6: MP5 from Cold War – 104 votes
The first of the two MP5’s from Warzone ranks 5th. The version from Cold War represents high damage, high mobility, and low range. It is a beast in close combat and plays somewhat like that – the recoil is very noticeable. Therefore, you are very quick and can skip a barrel attachment if you manage with the low bullet speed. This allows for an interesting setup that reliably clears vehicles out of the way.
Submachine Guns Season 6 – Positions 5 to 1 with Setups
For the top 5, we also show you the currently most popular setup according to “WZRanked.com”. The statistics page evaluates a part of the player information from Warzone to determine the most played weapons including weapon setups. You can also take a look at the current meta there – how this “meta formula” works, we explain to you here:
Position 5: MP5 from CoD MW with 120 votes
The “old” MP5 is hardly absent from the meta. Even with Modern Warfare, the weapon was among the top guns and was also part of the weapons played during the world championships of the “Call of Duty: League”. In fact, the Warzone setup is quite similar to the WM setup. In our list of the best weapons of Warzone, we even place the MP5 from CoD MW at the top because the combination of damage, control, hipfire, and mobility is convincing. It offers the lowest time-to-kill of the submachine guns with 526 milliseconds for chest hits.
- Warzone: MP5 Setup CoD MW
- Barrel: Monolithic Suppressor (integrated, subsonic)
- Laser: 5mW Laser
- Stock: FTAC Foldable
- Underbarrel: Merc Foregrip
- Magazine: 45-round magazine
Position 4: OTs 9 with 122 votes
OTs 9 and the 5th place – the MP5 from CoD MW – are very similar. High damage meets low range with good control. However, the OTs 9 wins in mobility values and plays more lively, offering slightly less ammo and bullet speed than the MP5 from CoD MW. After a small OP phase after its release, the OTs has carved out its place in the meta and continues to play on top. Its time-to-kill is 561 milliseconds.
- Warzone: OTs 9 Setup
- Muzzle: GRU Suppressor
- Barrel: 8.1″ Special Operations
- Stock: KGB Skeleton Stock
- Magazine: Speznas 40-round
- Grip: Snake Wrap
Position 3: PPSh-41 with 131 votes
The PPSh offers the highest range among your top 5 and positions itself as a strong secondary weapon to a sniper rifle. The time-to-kill is just below 600 milliseconds, but in duels, the open-bolt delay increases it by nearly 30 milliseconds.
- Warzone: PPSh-41 Setup
- Muzzle: GRU Suppressor
- Barrel: 15.7″ Special Operations
- Laser: Tiger Team Spotlight
- Stock: Looter’s Stock
- Magazine: 55-round magazine
Position 2: MAC-10 with 161 votes
The MAC-10 was very strong after its release and additionally came into focus, because it had a blueprint that caused more damage. However, even after a few nerfs and the patch of the blueprint, the MAC-10 remains one of the top submachine guns because it combines good range and control with a very high rate of fire. Your opponents will be literally shaken with hits. Like the PPSh, the MAC-10 also comes with an open-bolt delay of nearly 60 milliseconds. Without the delay, its time-to-kill is 608 milliseconds.
- Warzone: MAC-10 Setup
- Muzzle: Agency Suppressor
- Barrel: 5.9″ Special Operations
- Laser: Tiger Team Spotlight
- Stock: Looter’s Stock
- Magazine: STANAG 53-round Drum
Position 1: Bullfrog with 197 votes
The Bullfrog ranks first in the ranking and impresses with its large magazines and good mobility. Thanks to the large standard magazine, you can better adapt the SMG to your playstyle because you don’t need a magazine attachment. This results in advantages that the Bullfrog, however, buys with rather mediocre damage for an SMG – the time-to-kill for chest hits is 639 milliseconds.
If you compare the damage with other range SMGs like the MAC-10 and PPSh, the Bullfrog doesn’t fare too badly with its damage – as it has no open-bolt delay and earns its first place in the ranking thanks to its flexibility.
- Warzone: Bullfrog Setup
- Muzzle: GRU Suppressor
- Barrel: 7.4″ Special Operations
- Laser: Tiger Team Spotlight
- Stock: KGB Skeleton Stock
- Underbarrel: Grip Tape
That was our ranking of all submachine guns in Warzone. Thank you to all readers who participated in the survey.
Interestingly, there is a tendency towards SMGs with range. The top 3 weapons do not belong to the SMGs with the best time-to-kill, but shine through high range and good control. Only in 4th and 5th place do the first SMGs with damage focus come, which provide little range but are stable enough to catch enemies even at medium distance.
