Batman has received a whole range of different movies over the years. We are taking a look at which ones are the best.
Batman is an inseparable part of comic and film history. The bat watches over Gotham and usually takes reliable care of the large multitude of villains, of which the Joker is just the tip of the iceberg.
On screen, Batman has had some really good, but also less glamorous appearances. This ranking aims to determine which one is the best among the films. We consider all movies from 1966 onwards where Batman is the protagonist. Ensemble films like Justice League are not taken into account.
This is a personal list by MeinMMO author Christoph Waldboth. If you disagree with the rankings, feel free to share your opinion in the comments.
Rank 13: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
It may be due to Ben Affleck’s casting, and the fact that this film is part of the failed DC Extended Universe: I can’t relate to Zack Snyder’s vision. His style and the dark underlying mood may fit, but too many clichés (Martha!) and some wrong casting decisions spoil the picture. Especially Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor feels somehow out of place.
Rank 12: Batman Forever
Speaking of strange casting decisions: Val Kilmer succeeded the very well-cast Michael Keaton and only partly works as Bruce Wayne. Tommy Lee Jones, who is actually a very good actor, feels wasted as Two-Face and overacts in his performance – just like the probably most flamboyant actor in the film, Jim Carrey.
As Riddler, he puts on the big Jim Carrey show. Whether you like that is a matter of taste. The film is a fever dream that never comes to a stop. As a Batman film, it can hardly convince.
